Unfortunately for Pittsburgh, they're going up against the Cubs 4 best starting pitchers this series

Arrieta was great. I am going to say this right now....Jake is the most valuable Cub. Over Rizzo, Soler, Bryant, he's the one guy the team cannot do without.

Ace of the staff without question, even with Lester starting to look incrementally better.

Does Arrieta have his own catcher?

Boras client which of course makes it tricky. Hypothetically where would you start the discussion with Arrieta? 5 years/$90 million?

No...way too high....

He can't be a FA for 4 more years and he'll be 33 at the start of that season. 5 years is fine to buy out two FA years. I'd do something like 5 years $60 million starting at 6 and adding three per season.

EDIT: And that would be the high end for me because of his late bloomer status

3 years right? FA after the 2017 season?

With regard to Arreita, he said last year he wants to be back and would take less to do so. Whether or not that happens who knows but he clearly seems to want to re-sign.

I hope that's the case. I think he's got some good years in him and he's got it right now. With the price of pitching getting silly, some think David Price could top Scherzer's $210 million by a large margin, you would hope you could give some guys some security and avoid that kind of multi year possible albatross.

JosMin is slackin so I figured I'd pick up the slack :D

Your boy has had one day off all month -- spent last night listening to the game on the radio while I cut down some trees on my property. Very proud of the all-around effort.

And Happy Addison Russell Day, hooligans. I wonder how they'll fit "1060" on his jersey :smug:

Right he's a free agent for 2018, meaning after 2017. So this year and 2 more years. Not a big deal. Again I'd loved to get him signed.

Really? I thought it meant after the 2018 season not before.

JosMin showed good hustle yesterday. He really respected 90.
