Given our situation at safety, he will have plenty of opportunities to stand out. I too am excited about his potential, I am a fan of safeties with experience at corner.

His pro-day 40 time is encouraging, but that wont be what wins him reps. If he plays smart in the preseason, he can be the first guy off the bench to spell whoever starts next season. He is lucky to have been picked up by us, Fangio is the best coach for him.

I'd prefer to have Rolle and Mundy starting all year, and let him learn his role before being thrown in the fire. But considering how disappointing our defense did last year, I wouldnt be surprised if Mundy needs to re-earn the right to start. If that were the case, then Amos could see the field more often than you would expect for a 5th rounder.

LOL, new coaches won't change our luck with safeties. Odds are one of them is going to eat shit during the season and the kid will need to take his place.

Mundy is OK as long as he never has to leave the box

but not being in cover 2 all the time could possible make it a lot easier on the safeties.

Lets hope this pick pans out. We need some luck when it comes to the safety position.

Bears could invest a high pick at the position for once, instead of using this "throw shit at wall, see what sticks" strat they've been employing since Mike Brown departed...

Most teams stick with Bears strategies on drafting safeties. Get one in the later rounds and hope it sticks.
Just look at last year 1st round safety picks:

Jimmie Ward played 8 games at Nickel. Deone Buchanon had a negative PFS grade. Calvin Pryor pretty much a bust looking lost out there. Clinton Dix probably the only legitimate starter of the bunch. Didn't look like a pro bowler but will likely be a solid player. That is a pretty ugly situation in a year that was considered rich at the safety position.

I recognize one of those comparable players... and I believe his highlights was getting hurt a bunch and having a brother also play safety.

I can't tell you how many times I read or heard draft analysts say that this was one of the weakest overall classes for safeties. Not only that, but many of them hinted that this is a position that will only keep getting weaker. Much in the same way there aren't many 'pro-style' QBs anymore, because of the spread safeties are playing up more in college defenses - not having to worry about deep coverage skills.

You just aren't going to see stud safeties drafted in the first half of the first round anymore. They have kind of one the way of the running back. Safeties get injured alot and its a tough position to evaluate in college because you can't see their coverage skills like you want to.

There are 2-3 safeties that may go in the first next year. Jalen Ramsey, Nate Andrews and Tony Conner

Maybe this is a good question: Are you Bears fans more or less excited for Adrian Amos this year then you were for Brock Vereen last year?

There's not hidden agenda here. Vereen was a late 4th rounder while Amos was an early 5th. Pretty much the same in terms of draft position and the Bears need at the safety positon hasn't changed that much.

Sure looked like an awful lot of shoulder tackles in that highlight film. He tries that and NFL receivers and RB's are just going to bounce right off and keep going. Does anyone teach proper tackling techniques anymore?
