Yep. I won't be spending any more money on Illini tickets or fan gear for that matter.

Cubit got extended 2 years.

What a fucking joke. The school clearly doesn't give a shit about the program. What quality AD would want to come there?

I think it's about time to say good night to Illinois athletics. An argument could be made that they are now the worst athletic program in the B10 and I don't give a flying f.ck about golf and tennis.

Both Cubits gone. He wouldn't have done this unless he had someone already lined up. Let the speculation begin. Bo Pelini? Pep Hamilton?

Amazing. First day on the job and gives Groce the vote of confidence and axes Cubit. Both needed to happen.

If you have your guy lined up, I think it almost has to be someone associated with the NFL. While I was not a Lovie Smith fan once he failed to renew Rivera's contract, I think he could assemble a really good staff for college. Leslie Frazier is a quality defensive mind and obviously has coached small school college football. The staff has to be filled with some recruiters though. Otherwise you get Ron Turner version 2.0.

Lovie would be a great hire for Illinois. Wouldn't mind Leslie Frazier either. PJ Fleck from Western Michigan is another name. Young, high energy, really good recruiter, former NFL player.

Are those actual names they've contacted, or names Thamel thinks should be contacted?

Ryan Baker just tweeted "Some credible sources are telling me Lovie Smith will be the next #Illini head football coach. @cbschicago"

Wow if true. Baker is really well connected.

Wasn't a fan of Lovie in the NFL and I still don't think he is going to put Illinois at the level of Michigan and Ohio State, but I'm just trying to get out of the Big10 basement. Lovie should at least be good enough to recruit kids we have been losing to midmajors
