The Bears could re-sign Porter tomorrow if they wanted to.

I would wait till right after the season and you know he is healthy.
You sure about that? Does he not fall into the same category as McCown a few years back, where players signed to vet minimums must hit free agency before signing with their current team?

At one time, porter was considered one of the best up and coming corners of the NFL. He was a big reason why the saints beat the Vikings in the 2009 nfccg and secured their Victory over the Colts in the SB. And then the injuries happened.
Give him a decent incentive laden contract With a lot of money guaranteed.

I'd wait until the end of the year and avoid any doing any knee jerk contract negotiations now. If he continues playing lights out , then fine, pay the man his money.

A 3 year, 15 mil deal, would tie him up, without much money at all. Timing is everything, and considering he is playing for the min on a 1 year flier, I say he would be inclined to take it.

But that and $5 would buy me a cup of coffee. We have fuck all in the way of control of what happens with personnel decisions at Halas Hall.

I'm happy that the Bears are playing well.

It depends if the Bears do the lowered salary.

If they do the defered salary, then they need to wait.

I worry that we'll give him a nice, two to three year deal then he'll be on the injury report all the time.

Not if you put some nice probowl incentives in the deal. The guy clearly is a shit down corner when healthy. He has a talent that very few Bears corners have had in a long time.

If the Bears address the front 7 with some playmakers through the draft the secondary will be that much better. So yeah, resign Porter. With a better front 7 he has a good chance to keep up this level of play

Low guarantee, low years, high incentive deal for porter. Then draft a CB in the first 3 rounds. Maybe even bring in another veteran.

He is on a split salary, so he cannot re-sign before the end of the season.

Sadly I think you go a different direction.

He's only been healthy for a season once in his career and next year he'll be 30.

This is the type of situation where if you sign him you'll essentially be paying for the 2015 season you had for the vet min. and getting a lesser player in return.

I think you hunt for another Porter, meaning look for someone who's coming off an injury plagued season who will sign a one year 'prove it' type deal while also drafting for the future.

for all you guys thinking an incentive deal will work you've got to ask how much guarantee are other CB hungry teams willing to throw at him?

His comments about Fox sure make it seem like he wants to stay.

Pace drafted him.
Fox believed in him to bring him back.

I would be surprised if he was not back.

This is an easy one. He is not 26 and he is not 34. He will not get 5 mil a year for 3 years guaranteed, nor will he get vet min with incentives.

He is going to stay with the Bears, 2-3 year deal with 3-4 mill a year with 1-2 mill a year guarantee. That is my guess.

Probably not much. He's going to be 30 and hasn't been able to stay healthy. Most likely he's looking at an incentive laden deal from the rest of the league.

If his agent asks him to sign a two year deal he'll fire him.
