Our #1 prospect leading the top line in college into the national championship frozen four title tonight.

Nick scored the winner with 50 seconds left in the final against DU in what was a clash of college hockey's most decorated Titans.

I'm very intrigued by the future prospects of Schmaltz and Tyler Motte from Michigan. Seems like a lot of offensive upside but you never know how that'll translate to the NHL level.

The interesting thing is Brock Boeser the Canucks 1st rounder Freshmen on his line who really was the better prospect has declared to be staying another year. Probably the mess of that team right now without direction may of helped that. But if that impacts Schmaltz is up to be known. He could stay and they could be even better as a line than this year but Drake Caggiula is a UDFA leaving, so if Schmaltz signs with the Hawks there is the possibility to snag Drake to tag along.

The interesting thing is Schmaltz and Motte clearly weren't the best player on their dominant lines this year but maybe that bodes well as they wouldn't be if they are on the Hawks either and if they can keep that play of of speedy two-way games they both have with some offense touch they can be good top 9 additions.

Schmaltz does remind me of young versteeg or Frolik in his Hawks time in skill. He hits posts a lot on his shots this year, even had one in the championship game, but he this year played PK a lot which was good. He pks aggressively and has a playmaking quality like those guys were for the Hawks, that'd be a great piece of the team to get added back. Motte is pretty similar too with maybe more "grit"
