Now we shall see how good of a coach Thibs really is.

I think we already know Thibs is an elite coach. The question with him was always can he wear on guys too much after 3-5 seasons without bringing home a title? Pop can get away with it after multiple championships. He's a little stubborn...or very stubborn actually, but you can't argue with the results. He knows what he's doing and even though we can nitpick about things like playing Kirk too much when Moore was the better option, he was usually right. Show me a perfect coach who always makes the right decisions. They don't exist. He was damn right on Draymond Green when this FO instead opted for Marquis Teague who they never even brought in. Excellent hire for Minny.

More than coaching he's no doubt going to have control over personnel and that's what will show how good he is. Think about it, they fired the president of operations, GM and coach, it's a fantasy to think that Thibs can take the same roster and turn the ship around. Having control over personnel he's got to decide who fits what he wants to do and who he wants to trade away.

I thought this years' Bulls team under Fred Hoiberg showed how good of a coach Thibs really is.
I think Thibs is a fantastic regular season coach, but in the playoffs something just always seemed off. That's more so what I'm getting at.

I wish Thibs could have been in control of personnel when he was here. We probably would have had Draymond Green, Rudy Gobert, and Zach LaVine.

Well this should be interesting. Maybe he'll turn Lavine into the monster he's got the potential to be.

He did fail to adjust sometimes due to his stubbornness but let's face it...all he really had was Rose and Noah and there's no shame in losing to LeBron, Wade, and Bosh. Once Rose tore his ACL the Bulls never had remotely close to the proper talent.

Sucks to suck sometimes. I honestly thought that 2011 team had a good chance to beat the Heat if Rip could survive until then. We never got a chance to find out and now we're screwed. Always one SG away...then we get that SG and need an entire team. That's how the cookie crumbles I guess.

I saw it in every round in the 2011 playoffs.

Yes injuries never gave him a true fair shot after that season, but you kinda saw the same thing over and over again. The answer to low scoring losses by him was to simply play better defense, nevermind trying to play better offense. You'll lose to the more talented offenses every time if this your solution.

That was the 2012 team with Rip.

I don't know...the Bulls actually had good offenses under Thibs. Usually top 10 if my memory serves me correctly. Hard to have a good offense when you don't have good offensive players. We never had enough ball handlers/play makers and our shooters were mostly specialists. He had a defensive team, that was the identity and he stuck with it. Can't make chicken salad with chicken shit. Like I said, there were times where you failed to adjust and let his stubbornness get in the way but at the end of the day, when we were healthy, we advanced to the ECF and lost to the better team with a young Rose who didn't have the IQ to make decisions quick enough against Miami's defense against him. Once he went down, we literally had no legit offensive options. Lu and Boozer isn't going to cut it. The whole team was built around Rose being the MVP and a stifling team defense led by Noah, Asik, Deng, and Brewer. Rose went down, we never replaced Asik, Brewer left etc etc...

Was Thibs perfect? No. I'm sure he'd even admit (maybe) he could have done some things better. But after Rose went down, he wasn't given a very good hand to work with. In 2010 we definitely overachieved. No doubt about it. We probably should have beat Philly when Rose tore his ACL, but it's hard to say how much emotion of Derrick going down effected the team. Long story short, Thibs is still a top 5 coach in the league despite his flaws.

So, officially what decisions does President and coach get to make? Is it like Chip Kelly power?

Twolves are going to hinge on Wiggins and his development. It's going to be fun to see how the team looks under him. Happy for the fan base

More like Doc Rivers power (maybe it's the same idk). He's basically calling the shots I think.

I'm assuming it is different per the organization, but would this mean roster control, draft control, and personnel control? Because whats left for the GM then? Maybe more business end operations. It seems like one of those ambiguous Czar titles.

Either way this is huge for them. Thibs 2.0 unleashed with no dumb ass FO to restrict him. Plus a roster of young, fast, malleable athletes? Seems like a ideal fit for him.

They still have a GM I think, but I believe Thibs is gonna be the one actually calling the shots. You can make the case that's what Paxson does even though Gar is GM.
