I just think its kinda odd that this close to the end
The Cubs with all their prospects and being this close to a title has been relatively quiet in any rumors...

So, I'm thinking Epstein working on a big splash that suprises everyone
Or
Their standing pat with maybe a minor move like joe smith

That doesn't really shock me. I got the impression they went big early and then wanted to judge what they might be able to do at reasonable prices. If they could get a starter I'm sure they would. If they could get a longer term piece hitter I'm sure they would. That's why I really wasn't that inclined to believe they wanted Reddick. He was never going to be reasonably cheap and he's a rental.

The Sox on the other hand.... I have no idea how you can suggest you're unhappy with the way things are going and then do what amounts to nothing. Even if it's the reported possibility of Puig for Shields that would at least be something albeit small.

There really were only 4 clubs that had the resources for a deal like that in the Rangers, Red Sox, Dodgers and Cubs. They just arent ever going to make a deal like that with the Cubs, the Dodgers blew their wad, the Rangers backed off early and the Red Sox weren't going to part with Moncada. Of course Moncada could be the drastic change.

Rather see him go there then to a playoff team

They'll probably use most of what they got from cubs and indians

Seems like they'd blow all of the prospects they just acquired plus probably more.

That was the thought process. That they flipped two relievers to get Sale.

I think the media misses talking about the Yankees getting big names and make shit up. In two trades the Yankees rose from the bottom third in farm systems to the top third. With the monetary value of a small country coming off their books after 2017 they're likely to invest in what looks to be a historic FA market at that time and have several youngsters ready as well. Chris Sale makes no sense for them as they'll burn 1 1/2 years of his contract while not competing.

If @Cubs stand down today, it's because Javy Baez started hitting RHP and Carl Edwards looks like significant RH bullpen piece.

So Lucroy does not want to go somewhere to help end a drought, Yankees biggest sellers so far, Why atlanta went in on Matt Kemp was very strange, and the cubs are still tied to everybody.

Cannot believe the sox have not moved Sale or Shields. Cabrera or Frasier. The Yankees loved Torres, so I dont think he is moving anywhere if they do make a white sox deal, sox have anderson anyway.

Latest reports are that ton of teams trying to pry Soler away but that the Cubs are asking for a TOR starter and top 25 position player

That's a nice piece for Beltran. Cashman is a on a roll.

It's really scary what teams with big budgets can do when they decide to scrap it and retool. I mean the dodgers didn't even really do that but they used their money to fix a lot of problems. I'm not sure the cubs will ever get quite to that level but when they rework the tv deal they could be scary if the rules don't entirely fuck them out of spending around problems.

What does Baez and Edwards have to do with adding an OF bat and or a SP..

if they stand pat...
Baez isn't set at an everyday position with Soler and Cogs playing LF, Bryant at 3B, and Zobrist at 2B

Why I suggest getting a solid LH bat...
They can move cogs, trade Soler or keep in minors til sept
This way Baez can play 2B or 3B against LHers and some RHers, with Bryant or Zobrist playing LF

Edwards...
They weren't looking to add another significant bullpen piece

I'm no fan of Rogers but if Baez continues to hit RHP he plays every day, period likely at 2B some nights and 3B others with or Zobrist in LF. Given that it makes a lot of sense that they aren't making a deal for a lefty bat. On top of that I seriously doubt Coghlan will be on a playoff roster and Soler is a question mark as to regular playing time.
