We've seen that it's tough to attract big name free agents, for whatever reasons you want to claim. So how about a different approach basically using the model that shipping Derrick Rose out of town provided. Identify a player or even 2 with an expiring contract or maybe 2 years left and trade some combination of Gibson, Mirotic, McDermott, Portis, Snell, Calderone and get a bigger name player for the short term. A lot of times you see a player who is unhappy with where he is and a change of scenery elevates his game, not to mention playing for his next big contract. That could allow for pushing back the cap space they have to next year when more players come on the open market. Or work a sign and trade for the longer list of restricted FAs.

As it stands now there aren't all that many FAs out there this year that are all that great and with the roster the Bulls have, signing a high priced starter at the 1, 3 or 4 means they would probably have to trade one or two of the players they already have at that position.
