And Theo continues to laugh and hang up the phone. The Cubs are enamored with Schwarber and think he'll be a top 10 hitter in MLB. They won't give him up for a reliever.

I would need a SP TOR spec to be in on the deal if I am the Cubs

What if the N.L. were to push for a DH, but set up better rules to protect the integrity of the game, rules the A.L. should adopt but won't.

I propose you can only designate one hitter for one pitcher. Once a player bats for a pitcher, they are attached to that pitcher. If that pitcher goes out, they can't bat again.
Its 4-5 pinch hits a game, a DH specialist would grab 2-3 of them.

You can listen to what Joe Sheehan had to say about this in the link below. He says he would do the deal. I get what he's saying but when he says Gleyber Torres is an overpay and Schwarber is only a slight overpay he loses me.

A lot of people dont see Schwarber having the ability to play D anywhere when he comes back. The Cubs believe he will be a top 10 bat. If the Cubs believe he is a top 10 bat, they dont even entertain this deal.

If this were to be a blockbuster deal for Miller, Chapman, and one or two more players.. Definitely trade Schwarber in a mix of players ...

I understand Schwarber had the magic bat last year and the potential but we really don't know what he going to bring to the table when he returns... He not the greatest LFer either, and again who knows how he will return and knees hold up to playing everyday.

I know I'm going to get ragged, but if they can work out a blockbuster trade.. Have to do it

Schwarber for Miller is simply not enough for me to entertain the deal. Add in Jordan Montogmery (a LH SP who is not TOR projectable but a likely SP in the Majors) then I'd probably pull the trigger. Miller gives you three post-seasons while Schwarber only gives you four.

Also, what are you going to do next year when you have to get bats for the following guys next year

Rizzo
Bryant
Schwarber
Contreras
Heyward
Zobrist
Baez
Russell
Soler
Almora
Extra Guys (Sczcur, LaStella, etc)

I mean I like Kyle and think that bat is going to be an excellent bat; however, you have two risks that you run by holding on to him and the first is that he's going to be coming back from an ACL injury and the second is he may never be a 500+ PA guy for you since you're going to be so aggressive moving him out of the lineup.

'"Have to do a blockbuster"??

Why?

It's about getting needed pieces as economically as possible. Being a "blockbuster" is something only guys like Daniel Snyder care about, if I may cross over to the NFL.

IF a trade makes sense and does involve name players, that's one thing. But to say "if you can make a blockbuster, you have to do it." makes no sense.

We could be the DBacks bullpen since Thursday they have allowed the other team to bat around the order 4 times in the 8th. They probably just blew this game as well. Up 4-2 then 7-4 now down 9-8. Lol

Also, its laughable for Miller the way bullpen guys come and go. You remember when Bob Howry and Scott Eyre were going to bring us to the promise land?

How about Carlos Marmol, Greg Gagne, Jonathan Broxton, etc. etc. etc. Relievers are so violatile. Im a believer in not giving up any big pieces for one.

Cause right now, I wouldn't trade Schwarber straight up for a relief pitcher despite how good a reliever he is...

If I'm trading Schwarber straight up for a pitcher, it would have to be for a TOR type starter.

That's why I say if Epstein set on getting Miller and the Yankees want Schwarber, then if I'm Epstein I try and make this a bigger deal and get more like Chapman or the righty reliever added even if it cost a couple lesser prospects more like Vogelbach, etc.

You make dealing away a potential big bat like Schwarber worth something more then just a good reliever
