Lineup is not out yet, but Jesse Rogers saw Jorge Soler on the elevator. Looks like he is going to be activated. And, there he is in the lineup. Soler gets the start as DH tonight.

My guess is they like having Joe Smith and Grimm more

Edward Smith Grimm Wood Strop Montgomery Rondon Chapman

Not sure of their plan with Cahill, but if he returns to pen then either Grimm or Smith goes..

Or

Now with Soler back, unless someone ends up on DL by Tuesday..

Maybe they go with 7 relievers and 5 bench guys and Grimm or Smith is next to go..


Maddon really gonna have decisions to make with playoff roster with all these guys, especially position players

I was wondering if it was a durability issue. They only gave him 3 innings. He was amazing in them but this makes you wonder if he is a injury pending.

The guy they're facing has been rocked for 9 HRs in his 18 innings....it definitely is a possibility.

Figure the Nathan demotion was about giving him a chance to pitch. With the Edwards Ascension and the Chapman trade, Cubs will have a need for a longer arm than what Nathan can provide.

I love having Soler back in the line up, but I was really happy with what Nathan had done in his few outings. I think I'd rather have him than Grimm.

Grimm won't be around long
Most likely gone once Hammel returns from bereavement....

Then there Cahill yet to return, so I think this was just the start of eliminating arms that not planned for the stretch run and playoff..

Nothing to say they don't just let him go back to iowa for a bit. He's likely got the choice of that or FA but it's really not anything he did just more a roster crunch move. He could easily come back up in September and give him a shot at making the playoff roster
