Final week. Cubs going for their 100th win.

Today, the Marlins celebrate/mourn Jose Fernandez life. This is bigger than baseball. This guy was just a solid human. RIP. His number will be retired and never worn again by the Marlins. Sometimes, we get so involved with winning/losing. We dont pay attention to the humans behind the player. This has shocked the baseball world. I read a suggestion to name the ROY award after him which I think would be a tremendous idea. Gone to soon!

I like the Roy award idea. I hope it happens. I heard Andre Dawson interviewed today and he could not hold it together and kept apologizing for it. Of course no apologies were necessary. For someone I never met I have been really strongly affected by Fernandez' death. This was a special, special kid taken too soon.

BAseball is unfuckingreal! Dee Gordon took the first pitch in the right handers batters box to represent Jose Fernandez. Went back to left and hits a homer! Hits a fucking homer. His first of the season. He just ran the bases crying. So emotional and beautiful at the same time.

I am starting to think Heyward is actually back. Over the last 10 games he is 12 for 35 with 7 walks and 5 k's. That's .342/.441/.514 with a 12.2% k rate and a 17.1% bb rate. I mentioned in a previous IST his underlying numbers with hard hit rate were trending up closer to his career norms in the second half of the season. At that point his typical numbers hadn't seen the uptick. His BABIP over that period isn't even crazy. It's a bit high at .367 but that's not in the absurdly lucky territory. And even if you dock that triple slash 60 points all around that's still like .280/.380/.460.

Soler hurt again. .

Thinking maybe at least for NLDS
Add Almora to roster over Soler
And
Just go with Cogs and Contreras in LF
Or
Bryant in LF and Baez at 3B

I would have assumed the usual line up would have been Baez at 3B anyways even if Soler wasn't hurt unless it was a Hendricks start in which case Joe typically plays Zobrist in LF and Baez at 2B. Obviously there's match up considerations but Baez largely plays every day these days.

That is about the worst team they can put out there. I guess it pays to give guys days off.
