With Hoyer and McLeod locked in for another five years, it's an inevitability that some of the underlings are going to have to go outside the org in order to advance. Such is life.

Porter has only been with the team for a year after Dombrowski took over in Boston. He was a great hire but it's surprising he's moved on to another gig especially working under a former Red Sox colleague.

as long as the keys stay in place they can always get new minions. Almost a surprise the cubs hired someone that experienced instead of training their own.

I mean they did train him.... just in boston rather than in chicago.

Makes sense, Porter was a "Boston Guy" but to me he never seemed to be at the Theo/Hoyer/McCleod level in terms of trust and need to be here. Always felt like Chicago was a launching pad to a future move over him establishing roots.
