They can appear relatively fugly in the cage, but Meisha Tate cleans up nicely. no reasonable hetero single male on this site would pass on that opportunity.
i like miesha. She said "Honestly, I just knew after the first exchange that I just didn’t want to do it anymore. Just lacking a little bit of the competitive edge to want to punch people in the face." so she retired. I say, the first Rousey-Tate fight was the most brutal I've seen.

Ronda was done after Holly Holm knocked her out. She didn't believe she could be beaten and it sent her into a deep depression and robbed her soul of any fight she had left in her.

She seemed timid coming into this fight with Nunes. I could see the writing on the wall. Ronda used to go into fights with all the confidence in the world and now there was none.

I'm not sure she made the mistake of trying to fight standing up. The simple fact is your opponent isn't going to just let you take them down. Sometimes, there just isn't a good opening to take someone down before they turn your face into a plump strawberry.

Not to mention Rousey simply looks like a fighter that can't take a punch. She gets hit and loses all sense about her. In the immortal words of Mike Tyson, "Everybody has a plan until they get punched in the mouth."
Mike Tyson had big plans til he got punched in the mouth. Haha.

I don't think it was that Ronda was a bad striker or can't take a punch. She just ended up with bad people around her. I've seen her do well with striking in her earlier fights but, like with Tyson, that was when her opponents were real intimidated by her. The problem with her standup fighting is the lack of movement, she doesn't move with her feet at all well and doesn't even move her head. That's why she was completely destroyed by good strikers who didn't go into the fight being at all intimidated by her. It was just like target practice for them and the target never moved.

Maybe Ronda just had bad trainers. Maybe having an MMA boyfriend who is also a loser, made her one as well.

Or maybe she just sucks striking and when she gets hit. What great strikers has she faced? Zingano and Kaufman are probably the closest but neither of them have won 70% of their fights via TKO like Holm and Nunes. Rousey has spent most of her career fighting other submission specialists and she being the best of the bunch steamrolled them.

She got her ass handed to her by the best 2 of the best strikers in women's MMA. They weren't intimidated by her because they weren't trying to beat her at a game (submissions) that she is best at.

She doesn't suck at striking. She can strike, she just has had horrible coaching that put an emphasis on striking without working at all on her striking defense and while ignoring her excellent judo. Any fighter who takes 27 significant strikes within 40 some seconds is going to be badly hurt. Doesn't say she can't take a punch, just says she does nothing to avoid them and has obviously been poorly coached.

And it seems Amanda Nunes agrees. When she put her finger to her lips in a gesture to shush, that was done to taunt Ronda's coach who Nunes and many others feel has been the downfall of Ronda Rousey.

Dude she's been crushed by the 2 fighters that are heavy strikers. Fine you say it's coaching. Ok well when she finds better coaching and actually proves in the ring she can go toe to toe with a great striker then let me know.

Until then, I see a submission specialist who gets her ass handed to her anytime she fights someone that is a great striker. I am not saying your theory here is wrong. I am saying it hasn't been proven.

I, and everyone else who has paid attention, sees a poorly coached fighter who just doesn't have the right people around her. Her coach also coaches her boyfriend Travis Browne and we see how much he sucks. Edmond Tarverdyan gets no love in the MMA world cause nobody respects him as a coach.

When she dominated it was at a time she relied heavily on her judo and the competition was severely lacking in the woman's fight division. It's her coach that convinced her to be more of a striker and after she knocked out Beth Correia, she and her coach became far too confident in her boxing skills and that's the point they pretty much abandoned the judo and he obviously saw no need to work on the striking defense that she has always lacked. How a coach could watch how she lost to Holly Holm and then come back with a plan to outstrike the striker champion is beyond me but I do think it proves beyond any doubt that poor coaching has ruined her MMA career.

Someone being poorly coached doesn't mean they posses the skill to be a good striker or take a punch. That is what started this conversation ie whether she is a good striker or can take a punch. There are plenty of well coached fighters who simply like the ability and power to be good strikers and who simply lack the ability to be good at taking a punch or defending against one.

Until it is proven in the ring, it's just speculation. There is a reason she came up as Judokan and not a boxer or kickboxer. I agree she should stay in her lane and go back to focusing on her judo skills but not sure how that proves she can be a good striker or can take a punch. If anything, it proves she can't and should go back to doing what she does best.

Valentina Shevchenko just beat Holly Holm (age 35). Shevchenko is on route to a rematch with Nunes. Thing is neither of them are a big (US) draw. UFC is really looking for new American.

Cyborg vs Nunes would have interest, though Cyborg coming down to 135lbs is a bit sketchy. I guess a suspension for doping is still in the air too.

When a fighter gets knocked out the way Ronda did in the Holm fight, they will be more susceptible to getting knocked out in subsequent fights. That was an absolutely brutal knockout.

It ruined her chin. She was never going to be the same fighter after that.

I think Dana even knew that Ronda was a done after the Holm fight, so he gave her what she wanted (no media), to get one more golden egg out of the goose.

I still can't believe that she was ever considered a more dominant athlete than Serena.
