Post Report: Bulls, Celtics to re-discuss Jimmy Butler trade?

The Chicago Bulls could be very busy at the NBA Trade Deadline next month. And that could include star guard Jimmy Butler.K.C. Johnson of the Chicago Tribune is reporting that NBA executives think the Bulls and Celtics will connect again and re-open talks on a deal involving Jimmy Butler. Here's what Johnson wrote:
"There are rival executives who believe the Bulls and Celtics will rekindle trade talks centered on Jimmy Butler before the Feb. 23 deadline,” the Chicago Tribune’s K.C. Johnson wrote. “The teams held serious talks in June, and the Celtics own the same assets — Jae Crowder, Marcus Smart, the Nets’ first-round picks in 2017 and 2018 — the teams discussed then.”
The Bulls and Celtics were in talks regarding Butler in June. A report from last year also stated that the Bulls turned down a deal from the Celtics early in 2016.Chicago is reeling and has had some drama in the locker room as of late. It's a complete disaster inside the organization right now, so if a full rebuild is coming it will likely include Butler moving on.The 27-year-old Butler has been fantastic this season, averaging 24.5 points, 6.6 rebounds and 4.7 assists per game. The problem is that Chicago is in no position to make a run at the NBA title in the immediate future.Boston on the other hand has the talent to compete and be a top team in the East.Point guard Isaiah Thomas has been a scoring machine and Al Horford is a nice piece in the paint. Adding Butler moves the needle for the Celtics.Whatever happens come the deadline on Feb. 23 should be interesting.

If you want to go full rebuild, the time is this season or this off-season.

When you have contending teams like Boston who are looking at the Cavs and thinking maybe its their chance to get to the Finals but who also have extremely valuable draft picks like the Brooklyn pick and young (expendable) players, the Bulls cannot wait around.

Make your decision and blow this up now or in the offseason. An asset like the Brooklyn pick likely turns into a top 3 (possibly #1 overall) pick whether its this year or next year.

    Isaiah Thomas
    Avery Bradley
    Jimmy Butler
    Al Horford
    Kelly Olynyk

That team matches up really well with the cavs could definitely beat the Cavs IMO.

Bulls are infamous for leaking stuff out to the press for their so called "strategy". they probably threw this out there to see if trade offers will ramp up cause the way things are going now I can see his stock being pretty low right now

If his stock is low, it's only due to the team having no leverage. It's not like no team would want Jimmy if they could get him, but they'll definitely try to steal him because again, this team has no leverage.
    Bulls season be like

I'm all for a rebuild at this point. I think Butler for Crowder, Smart, Johnson (salary purposes), and the 2017 and 2018 Nets' 1st round picks is a fair deal. The Bulls get a starting SF in Crowder, a PG who can't shoot and may end up being just a defensive specialist in Smart, and a PF in Johnson whose only in this deal to make salaries work. Most importantly, however, is the two Nets' picks. That is huge for a rebuild.
