PS4 The Games I have missed and the ones I should be looking forward to.

So my fiance got me a PS4 pro for xmas.

Prior to this my last game machine was the original play station.

Needless to say I have missed a few years in the gap.

To the question.

What PS4 games would be worth my time to pick up used and give a run through?

What new PS4 games are on the horizon that I should be looking forward to?

I am still relearning what type of games I even enjoy. I have enjoyed Diablo 3 and Need for speed so far and a bit of Madden 17. Also played very little of star wars battlefront but it seems like it will be ok once I get a little further into it.


Haven't done COD yet, because I haven't signed up for the PSN, that is probably the next one I am going to get, unless there is a new one on the horizon worth waiting for.

Let me know what your favorites are and why? (I should mention I kind of prefer instant gratification or games that I can play for a few minutes here and there because, well, I am an adult and have responsibilities and stuff.)

is the ps4 backwards compatible??

u missed plenty of ps2 and 3 games.. i dont know much about 4.. i doubt i get one for another 4-5 years..

The bigger question is: What kind of games do you like to play?

I'd probably suggest these as the necessary for most people if a PS4 is their main gaming machine.

GTA V
Last of Us
Overwatch
The Last Guardian

There's maybe 4-5 more that are easy to suggest, but the issue is you may want to play earlier games in a franchise before going after the sequels. GTA V doesn't mess with any storyline from prior releases, so that's an exception. Metal Gear 5 technically can stand alone, but most people would rather start earlier in the series, which is well worth it.

Also, I'm just trying to point you somewhere. Others might have far superior input. I'm much more of a casual and retro gamer now due to time constraints. Last of Us would be the first game, if you haven't gamed much in recent years, as it's easiest to jump into and grasp, and it's such a damn good game for at least one play through.

Look forward to Mass Effect Andromeda in 1 month

Uncharted is a great series on the PS4. You can get all of them I think with the Nathan Drake collection edition.

The PSN store also has retro games here and there remastered for the PS4 so you can look into those too if you like.

The kid at gamestop said I should play uncharted, but he was fairly adamant that I needed to start at 1 and play the whole series.

I bought GTA, just haven't gotten a chance to play it yet. I have a few games that I bought that I haven't gotten around to. That one seems like a winner to most people.

I will have to look at your other suggestions.

I like pretty much all styles of games so long as they aren't tedious.

RTS and FPS and directed story stuff are probably my favorites. I get bored with games where you have to spend hours walking around to get places only to turn around to walk back. The final fantasy series like FF10 or open world games like WoW are probably not my favorite just due to the pure time suck. That is the problem I run into, sometimes I only have a half an hour to game and I do not want to spend 20 minutes walking somewhere and watching cut scenes, I want to be actively playing during that half an hour.

Imo it's totally worth it, but if you really wanted to you could just play the last one. But I'm betting if you do you'll want to go back and play the whole series.

You may want to start with Resident Evil VII, did you play the original on Playstation? REVII would be a good choice because as sequels go it's completely self contained.

I'm playing Nioh right now, that game is one of the best PS4 games, not kidding, it is fucking awesome. But it would probably be really difficult for someone jumping back into the gaming scene after such a long time away.

P.S. Horizon:Zero Dawn comes out on 02/28 and it's Sony's next AAA game. It's an open world game where you hunt down giant mechanical dinosaurs, I'm looking forward to that one as well.

The Nathan Drake Collection has all 3. Four is a standalone title. This is a tough question to answer without knowing what you're interested in playing. Doom is great. Tomb Raider would be another great title to explore as it's probably something you're familiar with from your original PS days and it is well worth it. RE VII looks like a bad ass game and would probably be worth a look. The Batman Arkham series as well as God of War (God of War 3 is the only one available for PS4, but I believe you can play the others through PSNow if you were inclined) are games I would highly recommend as well.

You'll need a quick, very stable, Ethernet connection to play games on PSNow also.

The service is basically unusable over Wi-Fi

^Didn't know that. Never played PSNow. Maybe if I could buy the games to own. They have put some PS2 games up for download which is awesome. I was happy to get Bully and The Warriors. I really hope a God of War set comes out for PS4.

My internet sucks balls right now I have 7 meg dsl that gets like 1.5 megs down. It's rather ridiculous. So I guess the ps now is out for the time being. I am hopefully switching to cable soon as i get both tv and internet and I can ditch DSL and Directv. Saves me about 75 bucks a month and the internet is much faster. I won't be able to get the ticket, but I am so over Directv that I am just going to get the game pass and watch the games sunday night.

Ouch, that internet speed is going to hurt with system and especially game update/patches. Even when you get a new game you're going to have to download part of the game or an update. I'd recommend getting that done overnight before you plan on playing, or you're going to be waiting quite a bit. Some installs can be up to 30 gigs even if you buy a disc copy, yeah it's BS and it sucks.

Yea, I have noticed that the 1st time I want to play a game it can take a 30 mins - a couple of hours to get the download and install done. Sometimes it will let you play while it downloads, but that is just how it goes I suppose.

After the first couple of times I have come to expect that so I just throw on TV or go do something else (Go to the bar) while it downloads..

Just a few others to add:

Destiny- Sci-fi MMO-ish FPS. You can play Years 1-3 content for cheap now. Destiny 2 is set to release later this year.
Skyrim- Fantasy RPG. They remastered it and you can add mods to it, though not as many as you can on Xbox or PC.
Telltales The Walking Dead- interactive story game based in The Walking Dead universe.
Assassins Creed Ezio Collection- About the only AC games you need to play. The series went downhill after his story ended (though ACIV Black Flag wasn't bad).

This brings up an interesting point that I should mention.

My fiance bought this thing for me and while she doesn't want to play all of the time, she does like to play from time to time and we seem to enjoy playing coop together (My experience with this so far has been Diablo 3.)

Any additional recommendations for Coop games?
