Of the consensus top 8 prospects (Garrett, Thomas, Fournette, Allen, Adams, Lattimore, Howard, Hooker), the Bears had all of them but Thomas and Fournette in for a private meeting/workout at Lake Forest. Thomas's absence from the private workout list is easy to explain. Like McCaffrey, he's apparently not doing them (same agent?). But Fournette's absence suggests the Bears aren't really considering him at #3. There's no real subterfuge/smokescreen benefit in not bringing him in. They are already bringing in all the other likely suspects at #3, so including him discloses nothing. On the other hand, they lose the opportunity to get to know him in depth. At #3, that's an opportunity Pace wouldn't want to give up, particularly for no apparent benefit. Meanwhile, Fournette had private workouts with three teams that are rumored to be considering him at the top of the draft, 49ers, Jags, and Panthers. A reasonable person would conclude Fournette simply isn't in the mix at the top of the Bears board.
Of the top 4 QBs, the Bears had only Kizer and Mahomes in for private workouts, not Watson or Trubisky. The same logic that applies to Fournette as a potential #3 pick applies to Watson & Trubisky as well. The Browns and the 49ers had both Watson & Trubisky in for private workouts. No subterfuge/smokescreen benefit to the Bears in not bringing either of them in, and a lost opportunity to get a better feel for them. At the QB position, and #3 pick in the draft, this would seem to be something that Pace would insist on doing. So,a reasonable person would conclude that the Bears don't have Watson or Trubisky at the top of their board either.
I don't know who the Bears will take at #3, but the Bears private workout calendar suggests it won't be Watson, Trubisky, or Fournette...
