Russell get the day off, Javy at SS. Jay gets another start in CF.
And .200 hitting Schwarber continues to play and leadoff..

Am I the only one who thinks this guy needs a couple days off?

Schwarber needs to start bunting or poking the ball the other way more...

They have the whole right side covered and all he doing is hitting hard grounders at them

Figures..

Balls Jay probably catches on normal conditions falls in and they score 4 in a down pour..

Cubs come up it stops raining and Cubs go 1 2 3

Enemy territory...
It'll be interesting to see what kind of pitching moves are made this season. We need at least one good starter, assuming we don't completely fall off the wagon and out of contention.

Oh, also: Brett Anderson needs to not be a Cub ever again.

Jay cost us a game last week failing to catch a ball everybody catches. What is a ball he "catches in normal conditions"?

He needs to sit a day or two. Or three.

Game should have never been played.

I feel like I'm watching the '07 Bears.

First one he probably catches if not for wet grass, or very least make a diving attempt..
Wet grass slowed him up and probably messed with footing for dive attempt..

2nd one was double, who knows again with footing on wet grass and probably heavy rain falling he didn't get a good read on it off bat..

I just don't know why they couldn't wait another 15 mins for rain to completely stop or slowed down instead of starting in a down pour

I'm curious when they are going to take the reigns off Almora. The big knock people had on him coming into the season was mostly his walk rate. Through 54 PAs he's at 9.3% to go with his 16.7% k rate and .271/.340/.458 slash. He's killing lefties right now hitting .438/.526/.875 this year on 19 PAs. RH are eating him up a bit at .188/.235/.250 which is odd because last year those splits were reversed. Last year he hit .262/.279/.548 vs LH and .286/.324/.400 vs RH

Looks like those 35 AB against RH what holding him back now..

Add to that they have Lefties in Schwarber Jay Heyward and SH Zobrist that can play OF, So Maddon has luxury of sitting Almora against most RHers...

It's probably going to be a slow process with Almora until he shows some consistency against RHers..
Most likely why a guy like Jay was brought in..

Almora will likely be the starting CF down the stretch. He's shown the ability to hit RHP in the past but when you have Jay as a veteran presence it allows you flexibility and not have to throw the kids to the wolves when he struggles.

I get the argument but at some point you have to give him a long look or he'll never get better. I'm not saying he has to play every game but his defense is a difference maker no matter what he does at bat. So, I'd like to see them give him more opportunities.
