Just read Doug Fister a FA is close to signing with a team.

Wondering if it could be the Cubs

Last two seasons he had a WHIP over 1.4.

It is still early. The sophomore slump maybe a real thing with this Cubs team.

Jeimer Candelario has been called up for the second game today. I'm guessing he'll start at 3B.

Just a little spark in this lineup. Maybe they rest Rizzo game 2, who knows. You figure they would rest Bryant one game and Rizzo the other game, now they probably play both.

Sophomore slump has been my concern since last July when I was saying they needed to do whatever it took to make a deal for someone to help them win it while they were all hitting and playing great..
Cause we never know with a young core in their first year or two what they will do the following year..

Looked like Russell sprinting out like he did kept Zobrist from coming in aggressively and catching that ball...

Of course Lackey gets pissed by ball dropping in , loses focus and walks the next guy

He is the 26th man. I think they have to reassign him after the game.

But I'm really down with the idea of him at 3B and Bryant in RF. Kinda why not. The kid is raking so take advantage while there is a spot open.

They have 10 relievers..
My guess is they send Pena back down

This way they can keep Candelario at 3rd and Bryant in RF at least til Heyward comes back next week...

What will be interesting is what will they do if Candelario plays well and gets a few hits and Heyward returns....
Do they dare sit Schwarber and play Bryant in LF

I will tip my cap to Lackey tonight, he gave them exactly what they needed...

I still think he sucks and don't like him though

He took over the team lead in IP and SO's. What has been his problem was giving up 40 hits in 36 innings. Too many hittable pitches. It is getting better at 44 in 42 innings now.

A few more games like this and he will start looking like the team ace.

The fact is that Lackey is doing what he always has done. He's about a 6 inning pitcher with an ERA somewhere around 4. Lifetime a bit over 6 and a 3.89. At 38, you can't expect more than that out of him. If the rest of the rotation was doing what they usually do...there would be no problems.
