Russell just showed what wrong with this offense in 3 pitches..

Hack swing at strike one

Big homerun swing for strike two

Big swing at head high pitch strike three

I'm wondering if/when joe moves Heyward to the 2 hole. He played him there for most of the first half of last year until he ultimately decided to drop him cuz Heyward wasn't hitting anything. If you move Schwarber down in the line up and Heyward up you still preserve the L/R/L split as well. And I don't know for certain that it would matter but if Schwarber starter batting with more people on I wonder if that might snap him out of his funk. Pitchers often get too careful with runners on which leads to mistakes.

It's almost June, the it's early excuse goes out the door now..
This team pretty much sucks this year..
There not one positive thing they have going for them as a team.

I'd line them up....

1. Heyward
2. Bryant
3. Rizzo
4. Zobrist
5. Scwarber
6. Russell
7. Baez
8. Pitcher
9. Contreras

Let Baez free swing where it matters less. Put Schwarber up with base runners. Give Contreras meaningful at bats to start rallies and he has ok speed still. At least Heyward has speed and you are increasing Bryant/Rizzo at bats, with Zobrist the only guy you can trust to protect them.

Also, Zobrist has done so well behind Rizzo I woudn't fuck with him like they are going to try him leadoff for a while, but he needs to stay where he is until Schwarber can hit cleanup.

It's a poorly constructed roster with who left, who they signed and who is pitching. This year is looking like it will be a miracle if they get to the playoffs. The bats will need to make an an extraordinary difference.

Baez should free swing until 2 strikes. They should have him choking up and going to right field after 2.

I agree with Heyward on top. This is bullshit how you cradle a guy that you made a 182 million dollar commitment to, but keep the kids in the pressure spots in the lineup. I would drop Schwarber down to 7th and bat the pitcher 9th again, he will probably walk half his at bats anyway.

I disagree.

BA at leading off: Baez .429 (3 - 7), Zorbrist .263 (10-38), Schwarber .190 (27-142)
4th: Rizzo .259 (6-27), Zobrist .216 (21-970)

Neither hitter is doing well hitting 3rd. Bryant did better hitting #2. Rizzo the same hitting 4.

So I like Zobrist leading off. Bryant 2nd. Rizzo seems to hit better #4. They need to only have 1 bat that struggles at the plate. That guy is Russell. SS is a premium D spot.

So that in mind:

1: Zobrist 2B
2. Bryant 3B
3. Happ CF (Gasp splitting Bryzzo but Happ needs protection and has a strong bat SH helps)
4. Rizzo 1B
5. I would stick with the match up. (Contreras or Heyward)
6. Again by match up.
7. Schwarber LF
8. Russell SS

Add to it I would platoon Almora and Schwarber. Push Happ to LF vs lefties. Schwarber doesn't deserve any special treatment until he proves that he is worth more than a occasional HR. Him hitting #2. .136. Worse than he did leading off.

If Maddon not going to bench Schwarber or sit him down..
Wish he would just hit him 7th or 8th in front of pitcher..

This way they can take advantage of his plate discipline and he'll draw the walks if they choose to pitch around him and he could also have a chance to see more pitches to hit with 2 outs , figuring they'd want to start the next inning with pitcher

Cubs are bad this year. I'm not sure what to change, this is pretty much the same team minus Fowler.

Maybe Rossy was the real MVP...

Losing Fowler was harsh. The biggest change is the rotation.

Another K for Schwarber in 2 hole.. .173 Avg
