Wind blowing in and this Cubs team can't score runs without hitting homers..

Locke going to decrease those numbers tonight

Took a 3 run homer by Rizzo to wake up offense..
Then
4 doubles drove in 6 runs

Decent outing by Jake...finally! Good to see the Cubs score on something beside the long ball. I know the Cards and the Marlins are not serious threats this year, but hoping the boys can finish off the back to back series sweeps. May be just what the doctor ordered. Good win tonight...let's get the sweep!

They need to play .500 on the road. 2 sweeps is a break even from the last road trip.

He's been much better of late. 2.72 ERA in his last 5 starts and has dropped his season ERA by an entire run.

It coincides with him going to his curve ball more. Now he is playing off it more.

What I've seen is his velocity dropped from an avg of 94 to 91. This forced him to adjust his delivery to a crossfire vs square up. By doing this it added deception at a cost of accuracy.

As we saw the results were mixed.

Now he has increased the use of his curve and we are seeing a vast improvement

one step at a time.

Jake seems to have found new life with his curve.

The next issue is Kyle. Teams are wrecking him right now. With his velocity he has no room for error. That is a bigger issue than John getting the old.

Seems to me the scouting reports on Happ have undersold his power. MLB.com had him at a 50 grade. That's generally an expectation of 15 hr's a year. He has 14 this year in roughly 200 PAs. Granted 9 of those were in a HR inflating PCL but still. He looks more like a 20-25 HR guy
