80-85 wins "if they get hot?" You realize they are already on that pace right? A .507 win% would be 82 wins. To get to 89 wins they need to be roughly 7 games over .500 the rest of the way. They don't even have to win that hard. It's a .580 win%. For reference, they won at a .640 win% clip last year and .599 in 2015. That 2015 broke down into .540 in the first half and .667 in the second. Those teams had largely the same group of guys. Also for what it's worth, that 2016 team had a .602 win% in the first half and a .685 in the second. So, the past two years they have been +.127 and +.083 in the second half. They only need to be +.073 in the second half this year to get to 89 wins.

Yep. There are 12 games to go before the true midpoint. 9-3 puts them at roughly that same .540 winning percentage of the first half of 2015. I think 8-4 is more likely but that's still a .531 winning percentage. The sky is definitely not falling.

Ken Rosenthal is reporting that MLB has informed the Cubs and Padres that Rizzo's slide violated the collision rule. I stand corrected. Let's hope there's no suspension.

No, let's hope he or Bryant don't get a 95 mph fastball to the wrist and are out for an extended period for time.

Their on pace now to be around a
.500 team..

Their 35-34 now..
To get to 89 wins they need to go 54-39 .580 baseball , that's 15 over the rest of way not 7.

They've been at most 4 over all year and have been hovering around .500.
So, yes their going to need to get hot at some point to play .580 baseball here on out..

Also, I think their going to need to add SP help if their going to do it.
No way this rotation as is gets it done

If he violated a rule, they'll definitely suspend him..
Probably just a game, two at most..

That decision by MLB may keep them from intentionally plunking him..

I hadn't seen it when I posted before bu one has ever been suspended for violating that rule. I doubt they'd start with Rizzo.

Pretty much to unteach players the instincts that they've had since they were kids. Frankly I think it's a dumb rule.
Yep..

Just heard that Rizzo asked umpires they all said it was clean..

MLB says otherwise because runner suppose to avoid hard contact when catcher has ball..
They won't discipline him though ..

My thing is unless Rizzo decided he was gonna take a regular slide over running through plate, how else was he suppose to avoid a collision when he was just 5 or so feet away when catcher caught ball

Happ watches another one right down the middle for strike 3.
