Richard (5-7, 4.30 ERA) vs Lester (4-4, 3.89 ERA)

6/20 7:05 CDT
Chacin (6-5, 5.10 ERA) vs Montgomery (0-3, 2.56 ERA)

6/21 1:20 CDT
Diaz (1-1, 7.36 ERA) vs Butler (3-2, 4.41 ERA)

Tonight begins the stretch of 20 games leading up to the All Star Break. 11 of the 20 are on the road but only 5 are against teams with winning records. The Cubs offense has really started to wake up putting up a slash of .253/.333/.476, a wOBA of .343 and have hit 23 HR in that stretch, scoring almost 5 runs/game. The pitching isn't quite as bright at a 4.35 FIP but with Hendricks down it's to be expected. I think 13-7 is a reasonable goal here which would put them 6 over at the breaks. It starts tonight with some revenge over the Padres.

If they can't go into the break winning 12 or more of next 20, then I think they really need to reevaluate how they want to go about the deadline and rest of season.

First I think they will do that but this team is going to win the division one way or another. Milwaukee is not going to mortgage a really bright rebuild for a chance to get killed by the likes of Washington or LA. They're just not going to do it and the Cubs, strictly by the law of averages, have some winning baseball in them. Get to the deadline and get the guy they've been looking for. Jeff Passan thinks they're going to go after Archer hard, and that Tampa Bay is waiting for it, but they'll have to be willing to give up on Eloy who he says is the Rays target. That's a tough pill swallow but for a guy with 4.5 years of control, a 3.41 FIP in the AL that never will make over $9 mil AAV? Yeah, sign me up. So now you go into the stretch up 6-10 games over .500, your bats awake and staff of Lester, Archer, Hendricks and Arrieta for the playoffs? I'm sorry but as tough as this season has been so far that will turn it around right quick.

Unrelated to this post but Gleyber Torres is having TJS on his non-throwing arm. Though break for him and the yankees.

No question. He had apparently been told that he was likely to come up to play 3B later this week.

Keep waiting for the brewers to fall but they keep finding ways to win..

Just like I keep waiting for Cubs to go on a run, and they keep finding ways to lose..

How bad does Schwarber have to be to get sent to Iowa? It's reaching the point where leaving him up is going to do more to hurt his confidence than sending him down.

Honestly, I didn't anticipate Lester finishing that inning. I wanted to see a pinch hitter.

Rizzo has been pretty spectacular and Happ has not.
