Man if Rondon stays as good as he's been lately this is one absurd bullpen.

Yep...big to win your game when the rest of the division is playing each other. You're gonna gain ground on somebody.

Here's an interesting factoid... coming into tonight the dbacks were +124 in run diff and the cubs were +36. Dbacks were 3rd in the majors and the cubs were 9th. That's going to change on both regards.

According to the Elias Sports Bureau, Jon Lester joined John Smoltz as the only pitchers since 1900 to hit a HR and record his 2000th strikeout in the same game.
That is just a crazy stat of unrelated things. I don't know where Elias comes up with this stuff. :D

Yeah but Len and JD added that for Smoltz it was the fifth homer, so it's the first time that a pitcher reaches 2000k and hits his first homer in the same game.. even more cool

So since the all star break the cubs have a record of 14-3 and have a 101 to 53 run differential 9 of which came in that horrible inning vs the cards. Cubs are averaging 5.9 runs per game and giving up 3.1. That one inning pushed up the runs against from 2.6 to 3.1

It isn't the Reds we watch. It's Arizona and Colorado.

I don't think we'll need to worry about the safety net that is the WC, but it's worth watching us catch the two leaders. For now anyway.
Colorado got a W tonight, but it won't be long they'll have a worse record than the Cubs.

Yes, pretty good run.

Of the three losses, there was the one you mentioned, which we led late. The other two were 3-1 and 2-1.

Pitching was good even on days we lost.

I figured you'd criticize Lester for going only 4, and criticize Joe for sitting JJ. :)

I wouldn't be unhappy to see the Brewers lose, but my preference was Cards losing. Even though Brewers are closer to us, I want the Cards buried.
