Hard to believe that which ever team falls short in the Central is a very realistic wild card team. Colorado has really come back to the pack.

And by which ever team, I mean the Brewers.

Cubs now up 5 on both Brewers and Cards.

Magic number is 18 with 22 games to play.

As long as the Cubs don't completely collapse - which they won't - it is real tough on the pursuers.

A simple 12-10 means the others would have to go 17-5. I realize head to head makes it more of a possibility than if the Cubs were playing other teams, but it is looking pretty good right now .

Really not that big at all. The Cubs are really just going thru the motions and getting ready to set the roster. Finding out who will be their relievers in certain situations, etc.

They better not just go through the motions this weekend and look ahead..

Lackey Montgomery Hendricks aren't exactly lights out starters..

Brewers are coming in looking for a sweep and will be going all out..
If Cubs just go through the motion here, tgeir gonna see their 5 game lead turn into 2 quickly..

Cards are playing the Pirates so they can easily grab 2 or 3 against them since they won't be facing Cole..

So it is a big series to where they need to start this stretch of 14 games against Brewers and Cardinals on a good note and not give them any chance of hope by getting swept or lose a series..

Here's a way to look at it; Assuming the Cubs go a very achievable 13-9 (a .590 winning percentage nearly identical to their August record) then either the Brewers or Cardinals would have to go 18-4 just to tie them. If the Cubs take 4/6 from Milwaukee and take 4/7 from St. Louis one of those clubs would have to win every other game on their schedule just to tie. I agree it's not over, but it nearly is.

Lol..

I understand cubs just need to win a few head to head games and all..

I'm just saying this weekend is big because they need to get off on the right step and not fall on their face and get beat here and give the Brewers and Cardinals if they beat up the Pirates any light...

Cubs get swept then all those IFs can go the other way too

Well IF they lose a couple of games this weekend I might be concerned on Monday, if they get swept I'd be very concerned. Based on their second half play I expect 2/3 which makes the Brewers go away.
