well, yes Monty is on a roll, but thats not saying he can have 6 no hit innings and only have thrown 70 pitches and Maddon will give it to the bullpen to blow since he treats Monty like Hendricks.

Another great start for Monty. Good start to along home stand (minus the 4 in Pittsburg.) Time to widen the gap in the Central. Can't believe I am saying this, but I would love to see a Cardinal sweep in Beerland this week!

When did the pen get up and start throwing? One wrong pitch in the 6th and he would have gotten pulled.

Is this a new stat? Almost getting pulled from a game? Maybe keep track of bullpen pitch counts on baseball reference? Did you know Joe Montana almost got pulled from a Super Bowl game once?

Monty has pitched well enough to be in the conversation for next year.

If they wanted to go cheap:

Lester, Q, Hendricks, Monty, Tseng

Then rework the pen:

Edwards, Maples and Carisiti covering the late innings. See if Davis accepts a 3 year deal.

At that point focus on MR and extending control over the core.

And yes Baez has improved. He has taken this opertunity and has performed. That said he is there due to injury vs taking over the spot.
