Sadly, I won't see any of these games. I'm blacked out on MLBtV because Mississippi is in the Braves TV market but no station here carries the games.

Should sweep. But I'll take 3 of 4 for the Cubs.

Milwaukee in a tough 4-game series with Nationals.

It’s been over three years since the Cubs had 20 hits in a game as they did last night. The Cubs have scored 17 runs twice in their last five games, and have scored double digit runs six(!) times in August. As Sahadev Sharma points out, the Cubs’ 270 second half runs are tops in baseball.

scary offense is scary ... at times.

Tonight's starter for the Braves, Sean Newcomb, is a guy I've followed for a long time. He'll remind you of Jon Lester at times but he hasn't put it all together yet. His 9.2 K/9 is very good but his 5.33 BB/9 is awful. When he's struggling with his FB command hitters have to be patient as his out pitch is his curve which is his out pitch. I really, really like this kid and think he's going to be a top pitcher in the league but he ain't there yet. Our guys have to show plate discipline tonight.

Schwarber homers twice and gets benched because we face the lefty Clayton Jon Newcomb and his 4+ ERA, such bullshit

Ehhhh..

He homered off 2 garbage relievers after they went up 10 runs..
He was 0-4 3Ks when it was still somewhat close..

I get his numbers "after the break"
But
You look at what he done last 10 games or so he still hitting around.200, do he still somewhat struggling..

Haven't looked but he might be first guy to hit 30 homers while hitting under .200..lol

What I'm interested in seeing is if Maddon benches him vs lefties in playoffs.. I think he does

Find out soon MRI about Russel injury..

If it really bad/season ending..
Do cubs go and try and make a last minute deal before deadline ends tonight for a SS they might need in playoffs..

They signed Mike Freeman on 8/7 and he's likely to be up this weekend as the rosters expand. He's a very capable defender. A player just has to be in the organization on 9/1 to be eligible for the postseason. Asdrubal Cabrera could be an option for the Cubs if they're not satisfied with Freeman I suppose.

Yea I just saw that with Freeman..

I'm just wondering if Russell out for season if they'd go into playoffs with just Baez as pure SS and hope for best..
Basically go with Happ at 2B with Zobrist most likely getting PT there..

Sitting Schwarber vs a lefty is fine but you really don't want to look at 10 game samples. It's effectively pointless data because the swings from one good game or one bad game can disproportionally effect results. For example, if you go 10 games he's hitting .163/.234/.465 but if you go 11 games its .208/.269/.542 which is 45 points higher. If you want to talk about sample sizes you really shouldn't seriously consider anything under 100 PAs which is basically what he's done in August at 97 PAs where he's hitting .238/.340/.512. The batting average is still pretty shit but the on base is quite good and the slugging is clearly very good.

Love Mr Happ, but he is not a major league outfielder.

I was basically making a point as to why he sitting tonight against the lefty..
Yea he hit 2 homers last night against bum relievers late in a lopsided game..
But
He still struggled earlier in Game and has been struggling lately again..
Hence the last 10-11 games stretch..

Also..
The doubles and homers are great and I'll take them all day from him..
But
You know when he has 6 hits in 30 AB , just because 3 are homers dont make it ok for him to be hitting .200 in that span...

That is all [emoji6][emoji6]

Fair enough but honestly the only argument you need is the fact he's hitting .167/.310/.319 vs lefties on the year as to why to sit him though I do believe he's been better since returning in july.

Cubs offense has averagef over 6 runs a game with starting pitching in the low 3's since break. No one wants to see this team in the playoffs
