That is huge! Though our pitchers have not been consistent all year. If they dont step up Scherzer or no Scherzer won't matter.

“The good news thing about it is I can walk and run around on this, it’s not like a major strain or anything where that’s debilitating, so I’m pretty upbeat and positive about going forward here.”

Scherzer wasn’t, however, willing to say he’ll definitely be ready for Game 1 or 2 at this point.

“That’s tough to say right now,” he acknowledged.

“We’re not even 24 hours out. We’re still trying to get all the doctors to take a look at this and make sure we have the absolute correct diagnosis, but we have a really, really good idea of what we’ve got here.”

Sounds like it a day to day thing ...
Probably throw some on Thursday, see how it feels afterwards..

Two years in a row the Cubs are very healthy and their opponents are less than full strength. Still gotta win no matter what happens.

Has a game 1 starter been announced for the Cubs yet?

Tough for Scherzer, but not upset we dont have to see him.

All in all I would think that he would be best used at the first Wrigley game anyway, same way Joe would rather use Kyle at home. Yeah, thats even after his great game 7 performance.

Jake's health should factor heavy. That could slot Lackey into the 4 in the first series.

But had to guess it would be Lester and Hendricks away. Then Q and either Jake or Lackey at home.

Hendricks is a better pitcher at home historically.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Chicago Blackhawks
  1. Michigan Wolverines
  2. Purdue Boilermakers
Almost time. Can't wait to see the Cubs try to defend their crown. Good to see the Cubs are proving last year was no fluke, not like the 05 Sox.

But is this enough to throw Lester and Q in Washington and Jake and Kyle home? History proved game 7 was a great performance too. Trust him for 5, follow with Monty and a rested pen.

Why are we waiting til Friday anyway, just to guarantee ball games in November?

Cubs say Arrieta is fine and will skip a simulated session and instead just do a regular bullpen session...

Im goung to predict , they will go this route with SP..

Game 1 Hendricks
Game 2 Lester
Game 3 Arrieta
Game 4 Quintana
Game 5 Hendricks

Reason being..
I think Hendricks has been their best consistent starter since return from DL and showed last year he a big game pitcher.. so give him 2 starts

Quintana with this being his first playoff experience..
Best to have him match up against Nats number 4 at home..

I think Hendricks deserves it too, but to me you really cant help thinking about getting your guy starting the next round.

Has a game 1 starter been announced for the Cubs yet?

How were the Cubs "very healthy" last year when Kyle Schwarber missed the entire NL playoffs and was limited to DH in the AL parks?

Rondon also got hurt and became less effective.

The Cubs were injured but they had such amazing depth they were able to push past it.

They also paid a ton of money for their depth in the rotation and the bullpen both financially and with prospects they had to trade.

I would imagine that the rotation looks like

Hendricks
Lester
Q
Arrieta
Lester (normal rest)

It would take something drastic for me to not see that rotation if it went 5 as you probably want your most talented pitcher on the mound of a win-go-home game. I'm not saying Kyle hasn't pitched well lately but there should be some credence played to Lester's career + this year v Kyle's career + this year.

If you go that way, if you sweep then you "save" Jake for the next series and get him more rest and if you don't sweep, you set yourself to pitch him after multiple travel rests (game 4 of this series, game 3/4 of the next). You also have to think Q as a lefty has an advantage against this particular lineup than Jake does so even if it's close, defer to the lefty + more time.
