He belongs with the second unit IMO. Good scoring option in that role.

Really good bench piece on a contending team in the future.

LOL at borderline all-star

I understand that he's mainly going up against second units but he's a young player and has a lot of time left to improve.

He shoots 51% from two, 35% from three, and 75% from the line. And per 36 aversges 21pts & 11rebs. If he was actually playing starter's minutes in the first unit, all of those numbers would surely decrease at least some. Though I don't believe it's a far cry to say that his *absolute ceiling* would be borderline all star.

Being fair, the closest argument I can make for Bobby Portis and all-star being in the same sentence would be:

When he's playing his best, Portis puts up all-star stats. But if you start judging players based on only a bite-size of the circumstances that they face, you only see potential and not the reality. Who knows though, he could make a leap, but IMO, we said similar things about Taj. SOME said Taj could be the next Pippen though and totally ruined the compliment some fans were trying to give him by instantly over-rating him to outer space proportions.

Thad Young was never an all-star. And if that is where Portis ends up, we should be happy because it's better than most of us expected.

The closest argument I could make is the following:

If 50 players suddenly developed stomach flu and couldn't play in the ASG, Bobby Portis would definitely be on the list of players I'd call to take up spots.

Rami is the list man, but I’d feel comfortable putting Portis at that moment in the 51-100 range.

so only 3 players per team are better than him at 100.

There are at least 3 on our team and we sucked.
