so Calvin Ridley wasn't even the first WR taken and some people wanted the Bears to take him at 8

They pretty much screwed up the whole draft. Can we draft them out of football ?

So, somebody is still actually paying RG II money to be on an NFL team? Wow.

He's a better back up than fucking Glennon and plenty of other shit back ups on several teams

Packers absolutely won the 1st round. They basically stole a 1st round pick from the Saints.

They gave up the best edge rusher with an enormous ceiling and a huge need for them in this draft. I was thrilled they traded as I sure didn't want to be facing Davenport twice a year forever. Probably got so much as they actually liked the player they traded away from.

Oh, Jesus! Lamar Jackson was considered a first rounder by many, gets drafted in the first, and the Ozzie newsome "ahead of the curve" drafting a mobile QB talk begins.

Puh-lease!

And there's Deion with the douchery. A guy just got drafted in the first fucking round, and Deion ruins his moment by pissing on it. Why did you go so low? Dumbass!!

I enjoyed watching Deion when he played, liked him some in the early NFL Network days, but now I wish he'd just go away.

Lamar, being able to escape the rush will be a plus.

But, dude, you better change your game, because running in the NFL isn't going to work.

Just ask RGIII how that worked out.

Why does every running QB get compared to RGIII? Wilson, Taylor, and Newton have never had the major injuries RGIII had. The issue is really got fuck all to do with running and everything to do with running smart. RGIII took hits that Wilson and Taylor rarely take. It remains to be seen how Jackson turns out but there are far more mobile QBs that stayed healthy recently than the same tired example of RGIII. Not to mention if you go back further, a lot of mobile QBs like McNabb, Cunningham, etc. also had long careers. And no Watson is not in the RGIII camp as he never got injured on the field. He got injured in practice.

I would really like a study regarding injuries of mobile QBs vs injuries of pocket passers because I wonder if people just exaggerate the injury risk based on a high profile single example like RGIII while ignoring all the pocket passers that due to their immobile nature get injured from taking big hits while staying in the pocket. I honestly can't think of another mobile QB that had the injury history of RGIII. The dude seems like a really isolated incident to me and not indicative of most mobile QBs but maybe there is a study out there that proves me wrong.

Newton got banged up in his own right as a runner, but he has stepped up and manned it out.

R. Wilson plays really smart. Haven't watched enough of Taylor to really know.

But I agree, RGIII had a mixture of bad luck and not getting to the ground correctly as a runner. Comparisons to RGIII are nothing short of surface level "he's a mobile QB", and that's it.

There really isn't any concrete evidence to support the claim that "running" QBs get injured more.

Traditionally, pocket passer ceilings have been higher than mobile quarterbacks. I think the lines are getting a little blurry now. Pocket passing combined with controlled mobility seems to be the next phase and it has shown a lot of promise.

Sure, Newton is a bit of a special case as he is so big but yeah my point is RGIII is not some standard for the injury risk of mobile QBs. He seems more like an outlier given all the other mobile QBs who simply are smart enough to avoid big hits while running.

Yep I would agree with this. I prefer a QB that can do both and what the focus should be on is developing them in such a way that they make the right decisions of when to stay in the pocket and when not to rather than inflexible expecting them to just sit in the pocket.

Running QBs eventually get pummeled, Cunningham and McNabb included (both of whom changed their game to be drop-back passers towards the end of their careers, btw). The first time I saw Carson Wentz play, I thought, "Good QB, lots of moxy, but he's going to get injured if he continues to play like that." Guess what happened?

People often refer to how "smart" Russell Wilson is, but Wilson got creamed last year and to a lesser degree the year before last, in hits like this.. I don't care how smart you think he is, it's not smart to take hits like that. What Russell Wilson happens to have is durability and a helluva lot of heart. But if he continues to take a bunch of hits like the one above, it is inevitable that he gets injured. Consider it a guarantee.

Same thing with Jackson, or (pick any running QB, regardless of ethnicity, college, pedigree). Show me a running QB and I'll show you one that's going to end up on injured reserve, even if you're as big as a defensive end (like Cam Newton or Vince Young). Note I am distinguishing between running and escaping. Sure, escape the pocket, because if you're a statue that's just as vulnerable. But get rid of that rock, and don't be a running back.

I would say that mobile QBs that rely on running as the biggest aspect of their game will eventually peter out. That mobility doesn't last forever so they have to know the pocket game......I think that is where mobile quarterbacks truly come up short.....the guys that can do both can last longer after the athleticism starts to fade a bit.
