Cubs have the crew’s number. Rock’s have the ability to run up the scoreboard.

That said the Crew stifled the O so I see this next series going a little bit differently.

My favorite teams
  1. Chicago Cubs
  1. Chicago Bulls
  1. Chicago Bears
  1. Illinois Fighting Illini
Marquez isn't starting any of these games for the Rockies, but I'm wondering if this series will get chippy.

So, we're nearing the 100 PA cut off point where stats become "real." Technically only Javy and Contreras are over 100 PAs but Bryant Russell Heyward and Schwarber are all over 90. With Javy cooling off slightly recently Schwarber is now #1 in wRC+ at 164. Baez is #2 at 162. Bryant is #3 at 157.

The interesting thing about Schwarber is just how monstrous he's been vs RHP. He's hitting .323/.425/.694 vs righties. That's the 6th highest wRC+ vs RHP in baseball. Javy is #5. Just as a comparison, Bryce Harper is hitting .280/.500/.660 vs RHP albeit with a fairly low .222 BABIP to Schwarber's likely stable .333. Harper has a 32.1% walk rate LOL. If the cubs end up signing him after the season... good luck RHP.

I wouldn’t be shocked if we end up with a RF/LF platoon for the rest of the way.

never like this all righty approach that allows a pitcher to work one side of the plate.

I'm all in favor of stacking the deck against a lefty. In this case however his splits have never been extreme although his SLG is much worse against righties. When you have the flexibility of this lineup it allows you to do stuff like this. Whether it's right or wrong remains to be seen but clearly Maddon sees something he wants to exploit while giving Happ, who's looking like he might be coming out the other side, and Zobrist some playing time.

Not sure I'd call it a platoon but I think you have the right idea. The parts fit together surprisingly well. As mentioned earlier, Schwarber is murdering RHP(.323/.425/.694) but still struggles vs LHP(.071/.235/.143). Heyward is hitting .273/.369/.473 vs RHP and .182/.280/.182 vs LHP. In other words, you want those two in vs RHP and if you have guys who can play vs LHP other than them go for it. Almora is the mirror to them. He's hitting .381/.458/.762 vs LHP and .255/.296/.294. Given his defense and given he's not *that* bad vs RHP I'm sure you can play him some vs RHP. But, sprinkling in Heyward in CF some with Happ/Zobrist filling the third role in the OF makes a lot of sense. Happ has been significantly better vs LHP(.316/.350/.526) than RHP(.213/.275/.362). Zobrist I am not sure is worth looking at this years numbers given he was so hot to start the year and is just coming back but his career rates are .284/.365/.443 vs LHP and .255/.351/.422 vs RHP.

Maddon is going to move guys around but I'd expect Zobrist in the outfield vs LHP and at 2B vs RHP with Baez to SS when he plays. Russell is going to get some starts vs RHP but until he starts to hit RHP better I don't think he starts vs EVERY RHP. That likely means a Happ/Almora/Zobrist OF on days Zobrist plays vs LHP with Russell/Baez at SS/2B. Maddon has been a bit more liberal about playing Heyward in RF vs LHP so that may not be an every day example. Against RHP though think you're looking at Schwarber as a mortal lock. And until Russell starts hitting RHP Zobrist at 2B makes a bunch of sense with Baez at SS. That means Heyward in RF and take your pick of who you want in CF between Almora/Happ.

Probably where youll see Zobrist and Happ getting the majority of their playing time..
Giving Heyward and Schwarber days off against some lefties

I think it safe to say , barring injuries and slumps , we'll see Contreras Rizzo Baez Russell Bryant and Almora in everyday lineup..

It looking like Maddon sticking with
Almora Baez Bryant Rizzo as top 4
