Cubs 67 - 48

5 teams within 4 games of them

Braves - Div leader
Brewers
DBacks - Div leader
Dodgers
Phillies

Not only do they need to stay ahead of the Brewers to win division..
They have to stay ahead of at least 2 maybe 3 of 4 other teams for a WC spot

Rockies and Cardinals
7 Games back

Love they made it a point to talk about Zimmerman’s struggles to start the game.

I guess we shouldn't be worried about Lester's HR that he gave up to Galvis. He's totally fine.

Man, for his last several starts, Lester has been straight trash, homie. Our starters need to step their shit up badly.

There has to be something wrong with his arm. Worst pitcher in the NL in the 2nd Half. And that's not an exaggeration

2 things on this game:

1: why did they pitch Montgomery? They have arm depth.

2: is Chatwood a option to give Lester a 10 day break. He seems like he needs a reset.

But no real complaint on this game. I was on the fence going into this start with Jon and this to me is a exclamation point. This forces a adjustment vs complicity

Montgomery was pulled out of the rotation because of the 2 off days, the past Thursday and Monday ..
Maddon went with the 4 man rotation, which will allow him to change up the rotation after the Brewers series....

I know im not a genius like Maddon
But
If it were me, i would of left my hot starter in the rotation and gave my struggling older starter, a missed start or two to rest and regroup for the stretch run....

Fans who don't overreact to every small sample size funk = koolaid drinkers

More good baseball thoughts from you, as always.

Does Lester have an injury that he isn't reporting? Chatwood has been better in the 2nd half

We all know Lester has the floating bone chips in his pitching elbow. He had them before they signed him to the big deal. You gotta believe if it bothers him, he drops his arm and does not get over the top on this pitches, so they float into the zone because they are coming in straight.

35ER in his last 39IP isn't some small sized sample.

Actually, it is.

In the course of a season, no it's not. That's roughly 20%.
As another poster said, he might have issues with his bone spurs again. He's been throwing uncooked spaghetti noodles down the plate and been getting absolutely crushed. There is something wrong with him.

FYI... ignore the little trolls on here

Lester made 24 starts
His last 8, which is 1/3 of his starts

since July 1st
8 games 39.1 IP 57 hits 38 R 35 ER
20 BB 31 Ks 8.05 ERA 1.96 WHIP

His overall ERA went from in 8 starts
2.18 on July 1st to 3.89 today

This isnt just some small sample size, minor hiccup...lol

It a worrisome problem, for a team trying to hold onto a small division lead and make the playoffs...

The rotation as a whole as i mentioned before, if they dont make the playoffs, is going to be the main reason....

It's fewer innings than what Clayton Kershaw had thrown in the playoffs when everyone decided conclusively that he "couldn't pitch in the postseason."
