Should the Cubs be buyers or sellers at the trade deadline?

The Cubs have some players that can help other clubs who may need either some relief help or some offensive/defensive help. I know it will be hard to dump some of the salaries that we have. Would anyone be untouchable? Should they start getting rid of players and looking to the future? Who would look good to a contender?

I know a lot of it depends on where they are in the division. I just wanted to hear what people thought about it.

At this point, Castro, Wells and Marmol (and maybe Colvin) should be considered untouchable...Soto is iffy since he brings offense to the table we'd have no way of replacing.

Sean Marshall is another piece that will be highly sought after, and they better get something useful in return.

But to answer the immediate question - wayyy too early to tell.

sellers. build around the youth. dump whoever you can at this point. realistically even if they are close to the division....you have to ask yourself...is this team a serious contender. i say no. they need more than just bob howry in the bp to get this team to be able to compete. so yes....blow it up

With so many large contracts and No-Trade clauses, this team is in win-now mode. No team wants the bloated contracts that Jim Hendry has put upon this team.

sure soriano will be hard to move. but win now doesnt mean they are actually going to win now just because of overpriced guys. you dont think byrd is playing over his head....he is one guy with value. derek lee someone can use.

Even Byrd is overpaid and Lee has a No-Trade clause

As others have said, its too early to tell. We shouldn't be making any high profile deals right now either way unless they are just too good to turn down.

I think if the Cubs are out of contention by the ASB and Ramirez has put together a good (and healthy) 2-3 weeks, he'll be a Red Sock, but that's all speculation at this point.

Aramis has a No-Trade clause as well and the Red Sox don't need a 3rd baseman

The no-trade clause I would think he would waive...

But - I COMPLETELY forgot about Beltre >.<

My bad.

I think if Marlon Byrd keps playing like this he will be easy to trade but I don't think the Cubs will want to. His contract is not bad and a lot of teams will take him in my opinion.

Buyers, I'm becoming more confident in this team.

Even if we don't win the division or wild card, we should be in the race.

What if its 7.5 and we're playing Houston and the Cards are playing Philly and the Reds are playing San Diego?

Realistically I don't see the Cubs WINNING a World Series THIS year so I would be a seller at the deadline.

Like many have already said, I would suggest building around Colvin and Castro and try to unload any contracts you can.

But most of the players on our team have huge contracts or no trade clauses that make them hard to trade.
