I'm not some big Chicago or Cubs hardcore fan.
But you'd think at a place like this..you'd have a thread about Ernie Banks. His first day as a pro Sept. 17, 1953.
Same night as Bears home Monday nighter.
Cubs are in Arizona, I think, though.
But you guys are slacking!

To be honest, the anniversary of being promoted to the major league team has never really been a Thing in baseball. This is something that's great fodder for broadcasters, looking for interesting tidbits to sprinkle into their patter on any given day. But it's not like anyone -- the ball club or its fans -- sets aside Revered Player <insert name here> Days based on service date anniversaries. Were the Cubs playing at home that day, there would almost certainly be no recognition of this date as anything special.

So, since such a thing has never really been celebrated or even generally recognized, I guess I fail to see how we're slacking. I mean, it's not like we all forget to send our Happy Ernie Banks Day cards... ;)

Excuses, excuses, excuses. He was the first black Cub.
Cards are lame excuses for not sending gifts..unless there's money in them
