This years defense is on pace to allow 293

I love what are D is doing, but we are nowhere near 05 defense. I understand offenses are different now and that means the times are different. In the times of today, you must put up 24+ point to have a chance to win.

I think the offense will be a huge improvement by week 8. Our offense will be averaging 23.9 point and defense giving up 18.8 point after week 8

If you guys want to drive the bears boat, then don’t wear your packer jerseys. Lotta trolls on this board.

Oh that magical game where Orton threw 1 curl route to Bradley and he broke it for a TD.

Then later we kicked a very pleasant field goal and won with just 10 points.

rules make it easier than ever for offenses. You have to grade on a curve.

Only one Bears defense matters to me in the past 85 defense

Honestly, 205 points in 2005 is probably 293 points in 2018.

Well, we can look at 2018 so far...

In 2005 the average NFL team scored 20.6 PPG. The Bears gave up 12.63 PPG (-7.97 better than league offenses scored on average)

In 2018(so far) average NFL team scored 23.2 PPG(+2.6PPG over 2005). The Bears in 2018 are giving up 18.3 PPG(+5.7PPG more than the 2005 team did, and -4.9 better than league offenses are scoring on average)

205 points in 2018(based on three games) would be the equivalent of a defense allowing 14.22 PPG or 227.5 points over a 16 game schedule.

so what went wrong in 2005? why were they unable to stop Steve Smith?

Mike Brown went out after the first series and they had a street free agent one on one with him on the TD where he straddled the goal post. Terrible defensive call...

shit, you're right. I was at that game, my neighbors decided to have a house party with bass so strong our dishes were falling out of the cabinets. I think I got like 3 hours of sleep. :lmao: I believe that was the beginning of Mike Brown's perennial injuries, that, achilles, and knee. poor guy, he was such a stud.

Yeah, everyone made a big deal about the Bears single covering Smith but the real issue was them not being able to bracket him and have a safety who could play the Cover 2 at a high enough level to mitigate Smith's explosiveness. Smith had 14 catches in the regular season game so it's not that they "stopped him" the first time around even with Brown. They were just able to mitigate the damage. Smith was 14 for 168 in the regular season and 12 for 218 in the playoffs.
