Looking at their situations, I feel both have come into the league, and faced similar situations overall.

Both were the first QBs taken in their draft class.

Both came into the league under coaching relics that did little to help develop them in their rookie seasons.

Both entered their 2nd year under a new offensive minded HC, and had to learn a new playbook.

So I was curious how Trubisky compared to Goff, through their 1st five games of year 2

2017 Goff 1st 5 games

3-2 record

100/164, 61 comp %, 1360 yards, 8.29 yds/att, 7 tds, 3 ints 94.1 rating.

21 rushing yards, 0 rushing tds, 3 fumbles, 1 lost

2018 Trubisky 1st 5 games

3-2 record

113/161, 70.2 comp %, 1261 yards, 7.8 yds/att, 11 tds, 4 ints 105.6 rating

164 rushing yards, 1 rushing TD, 3 fumbles, 2 lost.

All in all, IMHO, Trubisky’s development is trending in the right direction, and he is beginning to look more and more like he’s developing into the franchise QB that management hoped he would be, when they drafted him.

He's still got some "WTF" plays and missed open receivers, but he's definitely growing up quickly these last couple games. Mahomes had some big-time misses against New England that looked early Trubisky-like so it's not like Trubisky is the only one missing open receivers from time to time.

Who's the 7th highest rated passer in the NFL right now? Mitch Trubisky. Mahomes, the new god of the NFL, is 5th. Considering how bad Trubisky looked at times through the first 3 games, that's pretty crazy.

Nice thread URSA...
I’m very happy with Mitch at this point.
Was a bit concerned the first couple games but is taking big strides at this point. I think the sky is the limit next year and even harbor possible playoff hopes for this year.
A great deal of that is the entire team looking better overall. I was in the 8-8 will be a nice improvement group before the season. My expectations have been raised at this point. Yesterday was tough but these things are going to happen.

It’s actually exciting to be a Bears fan again! It’s been a long time.

They all have those.

Mahomes threw 2 brutal picks yesterday and Watson has thrown 4 interceptions in the end zone.

All QBs have WTF plays, young QBs have more of them.

Right, which is what i basically said there. He'll get better at cutting those down as he gets more experience, just like the other guys will as well (most likely).

Trubisky played pretty damn well yesterday, especially that 2nd half. Came back after his pick with a touchdown drive to Miller. Then led the overtime for a game winning field goal attempt. That is pretty freaking good. The d sucked yesterday and it was due to the weather. I was at the game, the d was gassed after the first drive to to the humidity. Dolphins sideline is covered while visiting team is in full sun.

Too early to tell much imo. He could be playing way worse, he could be tossing way more interceptions. But at the same time, he hasn't looked as good as his stats suggest.

And Jay Cutlers have them multiple times a game, usually at an increased rate the closer you get to the endzone.

When I first looked at the numbers, I was pleasantly surprised. While yes, Trubisky had committed 2 more turnovers, he still had more total yards, and 5 more TDs (4 passing, 1 rushing)

He’s coming along nicely.

On a side note, I did enjoy his postgame at the podium-specifically 1:03

Trubs is growing into the QB we thought he was. This is more important then wins and losses this year.

As tough as this loss was, this is 100% the case. I obv want this team to win but in reality we should be looking at 2019-21 and need Tribs to be a franchise QB for that to happen. We still have a ton a cap space and will go out and fill in the remaining holes (book it now Tevin Coleman will be our starting RB as we need that type of weapon, and Landon Collins at S as Amos just isn't a big enough play maker for what we need.) This team needs our young players aside from Tribs to continue to develop and we hopefully get something out of Floyd as he looks like shit.

This is a week to week league. The Bears can win it all this year. There are no clear cut run away teams. Lets see how competitive the Bears are this Sunday against the Pats.

The Rams are kicking people's asses all over the field this year. But you're right. Doesn't matter how you're playing right now insofar that you don't lose enough to cost yourself a playoff spot. At 3-2, we're still positioned to make the playoffs, we just need to be playing our best football going into the playoffs and maintain some good health.

I am amazed the NFL allows this. I thought they had all kinds of rules to make everything even for both teams. I thought I also noticed big fans on the Miami sideline and none on the Bears side. Yes? No???

...he hasn't looked as good as his stats suggest.

Don’t know what that is supposed to mean. Maybe we’re watching different games.

He looks exactly how his stats suggest. And it’s encouraging, considering that thus far, he has not had a consistent running game to rely on, to keep defenses honest.

In fact, on the Howard goal line fumble, in the 2nd, it was Mitch that drove the field (56 yards passing, including a 47 yard bomb yo Gabriel). Howard had 8 yards rushing and of course the fumble.

With Howard’s TO there, all we remember, is that Mitch looked like nothing but ass for 100% of the 1st half, even though he did look like a boss on that drive.

I would think this the case with permanent structures, but not mobile ones. Not sure though

yeah, that is some bush league bullshit honestly. I get that that sort of thing was prevalent back in the days, but in an era where the league is really pushing for a level playing field, there is no excuse for the Dolphins to put visiting teams at such a disadvantage.

It was a great throw, after a few really bad ones. Does that qualify as a "drive" though, and least in the context of "looking like a boss" on a drive?
