They don't but Soriano's price is falling so they could get him for more of a bargain price.

Great point waldo. If that happens, he'd make our bullpen stronger.

actually waldo, nobody knows the true team payroll, no one knows if JR will use pocket money to go for it one last time. So to sit there and say they dont have money to do anything is just flat out ignorant.

if he were to sign, the BP would go from horrible before FAcy to pretty damn good. the team would be solid.

O yes!

I sure like the sound of that!!!

So, what's everyone's feelings about how the pitching is shaping up? Are we better off letting Garcia go?

Where things stand...

SP:
Peavy (when he returns)
Danks
Jackson
Buehrle
Floyd

BP:
Thornton
Santos
Crain
Sale

Soriano would be a perfect addition to the pen! I still think Chris Sale will be our closer...

I am not "pitching smart" by any means, but I think Thorton or Santos should get the chance to close.

I'd be happy with either Matt or Chris to close, but I think they'll give it to Sale, once Peavy returns. Sergio is a great pitcher, but he's not a closer. He should stay in the role he's crafted for himself, IMO.

Ehh... I don't know about pretty DAMN good. It would be good, but the problem with relievers is they are so god damn unpredictable. I would be willing to bet that only like 2 of Santos, Soriano, Thornton, Sale, and Crain even come close to repeating last year's numbers.

No way in hell Peavy comes back to be an ace. He has had too many injuries the last few years. You'll be lucky if he comes back to be a 3 starter.

If he is throwing like they say he has been throwing and comes back with the same mechanics, and no change in the arm slot he can be an ace, the question will be if his injury will comeback. When he was aquired by the sox that same year he looked good, but his delivery was not the same, he continued to throw with a different delivery in the 2010 season which got him shelled, he than realized what he was doing, went back to his old ways of throwing, looked good again and got hurt.

so can he be an ace? yes. can his injury comeback? yes, that is the main worry.

I guess Cubs fans have to be cynical on our forum because their team is a complete joke and is going to be irrelevant for the foreseeable future. Go back to the Cubs forum and talk about how Andrew Cashner is a future Cy Young winner, while your team won't even sniff a pennant. Leave us to talk about our team that will be competing for a Commissioner's Trophy.
