How do we feel about the secondary? Everyone talks about the front seven, but I would like to give pause for a moment to talk about the secondary as a unit.

Donatell has done a great job with this group. Obviously, their job is made easier by a consistent pass rush, but the secondary still has to make plays.

Here are some eye opening statistics.

They have 18 interceptions for tops in the league. The most in the NFL last year was 22 (21 for Jacksonville). If they average 1 pick per game from here on out, they will have 24 for the year which would be better than any team last year. For those wondering, Jacksonville only has 8 (who most regard as having the best secondary in football).

The unit has scored 4 touchdowns in large part due to the excellence of Eddie Jackson. That is tied for the top mark in the last 3 years. KC and Tampa Bay have had a couple years of 5 TDs and the last time a team went beyond that was your Chicago Bears in 2012 with 8 TDs (some I witnessed here in Nashville where the Bears crushed the Titans).

If they take it to the house a couple one more time, that puts them in a pretty elite category.

Other fun slightly related stuff:

Consistency is always the mark of measuring a good unit. Lovie managed to produce 3 seasons of 24 picks. Pretty stellar if this unit could replicate that same level of consistency.
