Just think. "Hitting Coach" wasn't even a spot on a major league coaching staff until the early/mid 70's. Now look at all the staff needed.

In today's game, they certainly are needed. Too much data/information available.

I don't think you know what some of these coaches do. Also, these guys aren't paid much.

There is a historic amount of data (both public and team) to go over and have access to so if someone thinks the organization has too many coaches, I don’t understand how that’s a defensible position.

This isn’t the 80s or even the 2000s.

Just saying all these extra coaching jobs started more so to give jobs over needs in the beginning..

I believe that why they hire stats nerds to sit on the computers etc to get them these datas..

I doubt Blanco as the quality control coach and whoever is their catcher coach spend their time during the off season/season on computer etc gathering data for the team..

I pretty much doubt any of their coaches do the work to gather such data...

I see the Mgr PC HC bullpen coach
Bench coach bases coaches using those datas provided in games..

Not really the others

John Farrell makes perfect sense as a bench coach.

Ryno, Rossy, Dawson, maybe just elevate Hank White from quality control?

I got to thinking yesterday, with all the changes on coaching staffs on these playoff teams, have teams that blew goats this year and did not make the playoffs been firing their coaches or managers? Are others gone or is it just all the news with all the good teams changing coaches?

I have a young acquaintance who is the bullpen catcher for a MLB team. They all have value whether it's looking at data and passing that along to players or working specifics in practice/pre-game. I can't imagine Maddon personally working with his catchers on skill.

As a frame of reference, before NASCAR dictated how many crew members a team could have on race day, the best financed teams won. Period. Alabama spends more money on football coaches and has more personnel associated with the program who can not recruit, but help the football program in other ways. It isn't any wonder why they are the best program in college football currently. Spend money on players is great. Spending money on coaches and lots of supporting personnel is also a big key to success.
