It will be interesting to see what happens because Madrigal is not going to be in the minors too long. He has an advanced approach at the plate. He makes contact and rarely strikes out. He plays both 2nd and Shortstop better than Moncada or Anderson.

The kid is just a baseball player. He has a great attitude, works hard and has been extremely well coached at Oregon St. So what happens when he gets here? The word is he's going to be used at Shortstop by the Sox when he joins the system.

If you get a chance, watch him today on ESPN. Oregon State is playing Mississippi State for a berth in the Championship round of the College World Series.

Yesterday he was 3-5, walked once, scored two runs, batted in two and stole a base. For the whole season he's batting .399 with an on base percentage of .459.

In 2017, he was the Pac 12 player of the year.

I can't imagine him being up earlier than May 2020, so we have time to see what he can do against more advanced pitching.

I think he finds his way to the big club next year.

Not sure where. Moncada is your 2b and Anderson your SS. It's be 3b perhaps but I just can't see it. Certainly not the team's MO

Moncada has been fielding like a DH. He's a better defender at short or 2nd than either of the Sox current starters.

Time will tell on that, but Yoan has not even a full season of games under his belt. He's not moving yet IMO.

Nick was hit by pitch twice in his debut with Sox.

Nick is hitting .452 at Kannapolis. He’s picked up right where he left off in college. Excellent eye, bat control and contact rate... The kid rarely strikes out which is refreshing.

I'd be far more interested in seeing Jiminez.

Rarely? You misspelled never. :)

He could be our Leadoff hitter and an Altuve type for us.

Moncada moves to 3b/SS/CF/LF

There’s no question Eloy is the most exciting guy in the pipe at least in my opinion. The way he is playing, he deserves the promotion. That doesn’t change the fact I’m excited about what Madrigal can contribute once he gets to the big club.

However, if the team wants to wait til 2019,I have no issue with that. I may want to see Jimenez play, but I want us to be good longer more importantly.

I have no problem with that.

Madrigal finally struck out. He has one in 65 minor league at bats. He was recently promoted to high A Winston Salem. He’s hitting .375 there.

So just some updates:

I think Eloy is probably the best hitter in the minors right now (him and Vlad and then everyone else). Hitting .376 with 8 HRs and 1.106 ops in 28 games at Charlotte. Ridiculous.

Kopech continues consistently good work. In his last five starts he's given up 8 runs in 31 innings (2.58). 41 strikeouts and 4 walks.

Cease has been even better. He hasn't given up a run in three straight starts, 19 innings, striking out 28 and walking 3.

I think Eloy and Kopech start with the big club next year. Looking forward to next year being a turning point with those two, hopefully a more consistent Giolito, and a couple meaningful free agents.

I think he's only got about 4 or 5 more starts. I'd let him ride that out at AA to keep the momentum going, and if all goes well start him at Charlotte next year.

for me i'd like him to get those 4-5 in AAA this year, again in April and if doing well, a May 2019 callup

I don't see it until next September, but we can hope.
