There were rumors he asked for Zetterberg or Datsyuk at some point from Detroit.

I agree that it's not a good trade for him. But it's not as bad as people are saying. What I'm more confused about is why the only thing he was looking for was wings when trying to trade him. Just doesn't make sense.

And trading for a goalie wouldn't make sense because he already signed one. Even if it was a bad one.

Especially when the team isnt ready to compete yet.

Yeah. I don't even know how they could get better just because they're so bad and have so many problems.

Obviously getting Wiz and Carter did nothing last year.

thats a franchise thats pretty far away from being an 8th seed. might as well rebuild and when you think you are closer get a goalie.

Exactly. I honestly have no idea what they're trying to do.

Gaborik, Richards, Nash, Lundqvist = 34 million

That is more than entire NYI 2011-2012 payroll!

:O

Weber got a shitload of money, but unfortunately it's on a team that didn't get much better this year.

I don't see that happening.

The Preds are taking a major burden in the first few years of this deal. In fact, the first few years kills the Preds unless they hang onto him long term, that is the only way the money will make sense for a small market team. I don't see them paying $14mil to start (almost twice the cap hit) just to go through with a trade in year two.

The Preds, and probably Weber, are definitely in it for the long term at this point.

Agreed. Signing a 14 year deal with another franchise? Definitely not what I want to see from my captain

well see thats where it gets weird...he had to of known that Nashville would match, so why sign so long with the risk of that 13 years being in nashville? its really weird...

I'm sure Nashville spoke with Weber and his agent to find out exactly what the situation was. Could be that Weber just wanted to get paid and had to go through this to get it done...but that he also has no problem and enjoys staying in Nashville.

I'm thinking there is no way Nashville accepted the offer sheet without knowing if Weber would simply request a trade after the first year is up.

And what player remaining on the market is worth the money they would have needed to spend to reach the cap floor?

I meant they couldnt afford to not match it in terms of PR...fans losing suter AND weber in 1 offseason would KILL ticket sales
