The Sox couldn’t even win a series against the Royals. But they can go in to Detroit and beat the 2nd place team in the AL Central? Wow. It really has been a crazy season so far and I have a feeling this is just the beginning.
In the 1st inning, Paul Konerko continued his tear though the American Leage with an RBI single that scored Juan Pierre.
As it has gone most of the time this season the Sox gave that lead right back as Damon homered, his 2nd of the season. The Tigers then took the lead in the 2nd on Brandon Inge’s RBI single. That is all they would get.
Juan Pierre’s 2 RBI double gave the Sox a 3-2 lead. Omar Vizquel added to the fun with an RBI single that scored Juan Pierre. Adding insult to injury Carlos Quentin hit an RBI double which scored AJ and Rios. That would be all the scoring for both teams as the Sox took the first game of the double header 6-2.
In the 4th Juan made an excellent play in left field to keep the Tigers from a giant inning. After the game he said, “When you’ve got a runner on third, you go for the catch,” Pierre said. “If you don’t get it, so what. The guy is going to score if you play it on the bounce, and he’ll score if you miss it.”
Freddy Garcia was brilliant today as he went 6 innings giving up only 2 runs on 5 hits. Garcia is now 3-2 with a 4.50 era. Freddy Garcia is now 8-0 against the Tigers since they won the World Series in 2005. Santos continued his domination as he went 1 inning giving up only 1 hit. No runs scored even though he walked 2. Putz came in for the 8th and Big Bad Bobby Jenks locked it down in the 9th.
As for Tigers pitcher Rick Porcello he left the ball right in the strike zone and never got in down time after time again and that is what Major League players thrive on, making good out of a pitchers mistake.
