A’s Right Ship as Cubs Defense Sinks

Athletics 9, Cubs 5

Chicago — After a 1-hour, 41-minute rain delay at Wrigley Field the Chicago Cubs (28-36) and the Oakland Athletics (33-33) started a baseball game. The Cubs’ gloves didn’t come. The Cubs committed four errors, including two in the four-run fourth by former Gold Glove 1B Derrek Lee and two more in a three-run seventh by Tyler Colvin, along with a run scoring wild pitch by Jeff Stevens. A sloppy game played on a rainy Chicago night.

Oakland’s Rajai Davis and Kevin Kouzmanoff, who extended his career-high hitting streak to 15 games, led the charge with three hits apiece. Davis also drove in two runs to help the A’s recover from a weekend sweep in San Francisco. Trevor Cahill got the win for Oakland and improved 6-2 on the year and is now undefeated in his last 6 starts. Carlos Zambrano suffered the loss and dropped to 2-5.
