Chris Conte cleared to play Sunday; Bears injury updates

Chris+Conte+Cleveland+Browns+v+Chicago+Bears+6tNE78rcMRGlSafety Chris Conte could end up being the Chicago Bears opening day starter Sunday as the team announced he was cleared to play. Conte had suffered a concussion during the teams third preseason game in Seattle and has missed practice since.

Despite a rotation at safety situation floating around, ESPN’s Michael C. Wright expects Conte to start now that he’s been cleared.

Conte missed the first two preseason games after recovering from right shoulder surgery in the offseason. The safety was fighting for a starting spot on the team after a bad season last year, but looks to have regained his spot on the Bears defense.

Other injury updates:

Center Brian de la Puente practiced without restrictions today according to Zach Zaidman.  Meanwhile quarterback David Fales is out with a right shoulder injury. He was not expected to be active for Sunday’s game as the team will suit up two quarterbacks. Fullback Tony Fiammetta was limited with a hamstring injury.
