Report: Bulls to offer Jimmy Butler max contract in July

chi_u_jimmy-butler_mb_400x600It looks like Jimmy Butler will get his max contract after all.

The Chicago Tribunes David Haugh reports the Chicago Bulls are prepared to offer Butler a max contract in July, hoping to keep him in Chicago:

They fully expect to sign Butler to a max deal next July before another team even gets involved to tempt him with an offer sheet, which the CBA says they can after the moratorium ends.

Butler is set to be a restricted free agent in the off-season allowing the Bulls to match any max offer he gets from any NBA team. The 6-foot-7, guard/forward turned down a 4-year, $44 million contract from the Bulls leading up to the deadline in October. That decision could pay off big for Butler who is having a career-year for the Bulls and has been one of the biggest storylines this season.

Butler is averaging 21.7 points per game this year and is shooting .478 from the field.
