Chicago Bears trade Jared Allen to Carolina

The Jared Allen experiment in Chicago is officially over.

On Monday the Bears announced that they have traded defensive end Jared Allen to the Carolina Panthers for a sixth round draft pick according to Jay Glazer. The 33-year-old Allen was signed as a free agent by the Bears prior to the 2014 season. He didn’t live up to expectations last season and was moved to an outside linebacker in the Bears new 3-4 defense. The stint as an outside linebacker was short-lived however as the Bears decided to make the move.

The Bears paid Allen $11.5 million in a roster bonus and he will get $823,000 from the Panthers. The signing of Allen was under Phil Emery’s regime and it’s pretty clear new general manager Ryan Pace is trying to fix the bleeding of that era.

Allen registered 5.5 sacks and just 41 tackles in 18 games for the Bears.
