White Sox rumors: Nationals making strong push for Yoenis Cespedes

The chances of free agent outfielder Yoenis Cespedes joining the Chicago White Sox is getting slimmer and slimmer.

On Thursday a new team entered the mix for the prized free agent as a report surfaced that the Washington Nationals are in pursuit of Cespedes. According to MLB Network Insider John Heyman, the Nationals are willing to give Cespedes a five-year deal close to $100 million to booster an already impressive outfield.

The talk of Cespedes and the White Sox has been going on for weeks now with some on Twitter reporting they are close to a deal. However, the White Sox seem like they won’t go more than three years, hurting their chances at landing him.

The Nationals aren’t the only team in the mix either. Cespedes could go back to New York as both the Mets and Yankees have shown possible interest in him. The Mets would love to retain him as he was a key part to their World Series run last season. But at this point it seems like he’s destined to go to Washington and join the Nationals.
