Report: Chicago Cubs call up Albert Almora Jr.

Another prospect is coming up for the Chicago Cubs.

Outfielder Albert Almora Jr. is expected to be called up to the big leagues if Jorge Soler is required to go on the disabled list. Soler injured his hamstring in the Cubs win over the Philadelphia Phillies on Monday night.

Comcast Sports Net Chicago’s David Kaplan reported the news on Tuesday:

The 22-year-old Almora Jr. is having a nice season in Triple-A for the Iowa Cubs. Through 54 games he’s hitting .318 with 3 home runs and 30 RBI. He also has an OPS of .779 and is slugging .444.

Iowa Cubs’ reporter Tommy Birch first reported the possibility of Almora being called up:

While Almora Jr.’s bat may not be ready for the big leagues, his defense is. He’s been stellar defensively in the field and would just add to the Cubs already stacked outfield.

Soler is expected to undergo an MRI on Tuesday morning and the results should be available soon.
