RUMOR: Cubs, Yankees talking Aroldis Chapman trade?

The Chicago Cubs already have the best record in baseball by five games and have cruised through the first two months of the season. But could they get even better?

A rumor is floating around that the Cubs and New York Yankees are discussing a trade for closer Aroldis Chapman. Christopher Meola sent out this tweet earlier on Friday:

Meola may not be well known as insiders usually have thousands of followers on Twitter. But he did break some big signings including Giancarlo Stanton, Hanley Ramirez and more.

The Yankees are likely going to deal Chapman by the deadline barring a run that gets them right into playoff contention. Chapman scheduled to be a free agent after this season is also another reason why the Yankees would want to move him.

As for the Cubs, they are in prime position to win it all this season and adding Chapman would improve their bullpen. But what would it take?

The Cubs still have plenty of prospects that they can include in packages to land players as the farm system is still pretty good. Meola went on to tweet that he’s hearing talks could revolve around Javier Baez, Adam Warren and other minor leaguers.

Warren was acquired by the Cubs for Starlin Castro in the offseason.

If the Yankees are asking for a player like Baez, it will be hard seeing the Cubs pull the trigger on the deal especially with current closer Hector Rondon having a solid season.

Let’s also not forget this moment between Anthony Rizzo and Chapman during the 2014 season:

Theo trading Baez and Castro for a few months of Chapman just doesn’t make sense. But stay tuned.
