Chicago Cubs sign Kyle Hendricks to extension

The Chicago Cubs just locked up a key member of their starting rotation for at least the next four or so seasons.

On Tuesday just a few days before the 2019 season opener, the Cubs announced they have agreed to a four-year extension with starting pitcher Kyle Hendricks. The Cubs still had two years of control on Hendricks, but extending him now through 2024 made sense.

The four-year deal is worth $55.59M and includes a fifth year club option for the Cubs. The 29-year-old Hendricks enters this season as a key piece in Chicago’s rotation, which would be the difference in them making a run in the playoffs or not.

Hendricks has posted a 3.07 ERA with 52 wins and 33 losses in his five-year career with the Cubs. He’s been reliable over his career, pitching 180+ innings in three of those five seasons.
