The Chicago Bears have had a bit of a slow start to free agency, only signing three players so far. But general manager Ryan Poles stuck to his words and is focusing on needs in the second and third tiers of the process.
One player that Chicago added is offensive lineman Lucas Patrick. The former Green Bay Packers center reunites with Luke Getsy in Chicago and is expected to compete for a starting job. Getsy has been fantastic at center/guard for the Packers the past two seasons and the signing was praised by a Packers’ insider.
Here is what Aaron Nagler had to say about the signing:
Packers have drafted a bunch of linemen recently, so it’s understandable. But Patrick is a classic “compete to the echo of the whistle” brawler who can play anywhere along the interior. Sad to see him go.

Nagler called Patrick a classic “Compete to the echo of the whistle” player which is what the Bears want from their linemen. We saw too often the team struggle there last season and protecting Justin Fields at all costs is the most important thing.
Let’s hope Nagler is right and Patrick pans out.
